Its been awhile since a mileage thread has surfaced, I'm curious what Jared has now, and what Trip has on the BMW, Gasman on the HD, and shit Marko should even have 5 or 10 miles on his since the last thread:lol

My cbr is a tick over 19,000 now, around 19,200.

yup, bought it new in 03, and have had it ever since, I did over 30k the last 2.5 yrs between my longish commutes racking up the miles then a few weekend trips and the twf rallys. I am hopin got finish the season over 70k and my goal is to hit 100k on it

not realy, had some EFi issues early on but that was all warantee stuff. Now its just wear and tear sort of things. Just replaced the steering head and front wheel bearings. The suspension can use some sprucing up but is plenty fine for commuting/touring, I just wont push as hard in the twisties with it. The rotax motors pare prety muc bullet proof, its just all the crap bolted onto them :lol:

I'm not pushing shit. This year will probably suck for miles... I'll probably do half of last year due to work. We'll see. I'm trying not to dwell on it so I don't get pissed. Since I got the Ultra April 2010 I have close to 10k on it for me. I hope to have about 15K added on after this summer I got the bike at 14,3ish and she is about to push over the 24K mark soon. Perhaps get her put away this fall with nearly 30K hopefully over.

To be fair Cave, a few of the bikes had some mileage on them when I bought them.

The Busa I got brand new, so all 69k is mine. (bought new August 2003)
The TLR had 4k, so 28k+ is mine. (bought in December 2000)
The BMW had 26k on it, so 5k is mine. (bought November 2010)
The KLR had 34k on it, so almost 2k is mine. (bought September 2010)

I can still claim 105k worth of miles though on my own, which is still plenty respectable I think. :)

Yes, I do work. No, I'm not 100. LOL. I work for a great company that puts up with my month long vacation antics, and well, I do ride 1500 miles for lunch on occasion. :lol

I'm at 9303. Considering I was at 8161 on 10/15/10, I'm doing poorly this year. However, that's because my priorities have changed.

My "pleasure mileage" has been VERY low, almost non-existent this year. I've only ridden for field calls at work, as I'm trying to get out of debt as fast as possible. Riding the bike for field calls actually helps with that since I'm getting 50+ mpg and get paid 48 cents per mile while riding the bike. If I drive the car, I get an extra 3 cents per mile, but the car gets half the gas mileage, so the bike is the better option.

If I could find a way to reasonably rig a large pizza carrier on the back of the bike, I'd use it while working my second job. Unfortunately, I sometimes take very large orders and there's no way that would work on the bike. I'd have to pass those large orders off to other drivers, which would be detrimental since the larger orders generally result in larger tips.

So, don't look for me to win any mileage contests this year.

Luckily there is hardly ever anyone with a VFR that says their valves where out of specs. I checked 4k ago or so, all within specs. There's guys that have 100k and just checked theirs.

I think 12k. It's too easy to do when I do an oil change, so I do it every oil change. I have adjusted them too, stupid simple. The new overhead cam one is suppose to be 100x harder.

Unless your engine has set screws I wouldnt fuck with the valves. Ive hardly seen or heard someone say their shimmed valves were out of specs. Most that do adjust them are the OCD bikers.

I have a tick but all my valves are within spec. Do you have a flapper valve on your airbox? They can make a noise flapping open/close.

I usually check them every 30k-ish or so, since they rarely ever move. Had a couple exhaust valves out of spec at 100k and that's been the only real adjustment. I need to check them again though... I've been lazy, lol

The 954 didnt even make it to the first adjustment. Which is why it was split in half. Multiple super tight exhaust valves. One was pushed further than it could handle.

Sounds like the factory didn't do a good job setting the valves as I'm gonna guess the 954 uses shims.

Yep, shim under bucket. I've talked to other 929/954 owners who had to really keep on top of valve adjustments. Not to mention the cylinder scoring/oil consumption problems many of the ones I've seen deal with. I love that model but they seem to carry a lot of baggage.

R1's were known for running on no oil and F'in cylinders up. But guess what, only when running wheelies for miles. Cause, the oil pick ups, faced forward in the oil pan.

The oil pickup in the sump can be reversed so that it pulls from the rear of the sump where all the oil sits when the bike is on its rear wheel. It also helps because most suntahs overfill their oil by a quart or so to make sure there is enough in the sump.

BMW, I believe, says 12k for checking the valves. I do a check every oil change (6k) while the oil is draining out of the bike because I get bored and opening up the heads is fun and doesn't take very long. I don't adjust them every time. If they are close to spec I will usually just leave them alone.

After the 7th I probably won't take a pleasure ride for 5 weeks, that's my summer quarter and they're cramming 10 week courses into it. It's gonna be the suck!

Tripped 20K today, sitting about 20,2XX. Nice little excursion today to WV with some friends. They continued south and we came back north through PA and got soaked! Was a good day with 417 miles clocked. Had it not been for the rain holding us up, we could have went further.
