Just picked up a Galaxy Tab yesterday. I've discovered that several apps I use on my phone don't always translate well into the tablet format. It hasn't been anything critical,so I'm not looking for specific app replacements, more just wondering if anyone can tell me what is really useful and/or fun. :D

I can't recall the name of the app and my Xoom is at home but there's an app where you can hold the tablet up to the sky and move it around and it will show you the constellations and stars, etc. Pretty neat.

If smartphone apps work on it then:

Dashboard Assist
Chapelle Clayton Bigsby
Kindle
Scanner Radio (gotta listen in on those pesky popo)
Skype (I wonder if it does video chat?)

If you like old NES, super nes, sega genesis games, then those emulator apps are great fun.

Got Angry Birds.. wasn't a huge fan of the latter.

Probably Google Sky

Yup, and that one is awesome.

It does do video chat, although Google talk works pretty well.

SmugFolio is a cool app if you want a SmugMug app that stores local copies of your photos and loads more quickly than the official app. Great for me - saves on printing my entire portfolio lol.

Watchdog has been awesome for both my phone and my tablet. I took heed with those warnings about task killer apps... I just have Watchdog set to monitor when apps get above a certain threshold of CPU usage and alerts me when that occurs. Usually it's facebook on my phone and the browser on my tablet that seem to eat a lot of memory.

How are you liking the Galaxy tablet? I left my iPad on a plane a couple of weeks ago, and I'm pondering (gasp) looking into the Android side of things when I have some disposable income. Are there enough apps to keep it entertaining and useful?

I really like it. It doesn't completely do away with my laptop (mainly because certain websites still don't fully work with the browser, in addition to my requirement for Photoshop and Bridge for my photography stuff). But I don't need to take my laptop everywhere.. the tablet covers almost anything my phone can't do, and still fits in my purse. I can take notes on it during work meetings, take pictures, look at pictures in much better resolution, carry around my photography portfolio via SmugFolio, etc. etc. It was a worthy investment, IMO.

My only beef.. it doesn't seem to be able to show up as an external drive on my MacBook like my phone does. I have no idea why it does that, it showed up fine on the BF's Windows laptop. Maybe just not compatible with MacOs or something. I dunno. But... I can use DoubleTwist to airsync music and videos to it. Files.. I have to e-mail to myself, but that's no real biggie.
