I'm still waiting to see the price. I keep expecting a $30k price tag

Yeah, they've been "reviewing" the price for long enough now that I feel it's falling into the "if you have to ask..." category.

I think they are going to rock it.

I am going to have to honey badger this one.

regarding their price: cool bike, love the idea behind it but I just don't see them charging what I expect to be an exorbitant amount of money for what is basically not an advanced motorcycle. I love the design and the engine, but really its just not special except for its name which is going to carry some exclusivity, but i'm not seeing the technological advancement.

Where is the ABS, traction control, GPS, radio, adjustable windshield all that cool stuff. I do however see it costing $30,000 right out of the gate just because it is in limited production.

Also, the more I look at it, the more scared I am of the exhaust, I can just see people burning their shins on it by accident for whatever reason

Why the fuck does everything have to be so advanced? If it puts out the power they claim it does, looks and sounds cool, does it really matter if it has a crossplane ABS mounted GPS traction control module that fries bacon while playing top 40 hits?

My question always is... does it work? check. does it work well? check. does it sound cool? check. does it look cool? :rockwoot:

And $30k for something unique and rare... I'd have no issue with that. They aren't targeting the derf's and OSP's of the world obviously...

Yeah, they are targeting the high end guys who want a sport tourer. These guys put down a lot of miles and want those bells and whistles.

I used to put on a lot of miles and I have no desire for any of that shit... I think a lot of people are forgetting how fun and satisfying a simple motorcycle can be... However, I think there are a lot of other people who remember.

You mean like railing around on a CRF50? I completely understand a simple motorcycle.

The problem with this, is people don't want to spend this type of coin on something simple. If they want a rich fancy sport touring rig, they want that shit farkled out.

I wasn't referring to you... you obviously appreciate a simple machine... I think the Motus has a market even at derf's proposed MSRP... Especially considering the power and weight of this thing... I think it's going to appeal to the more sporting side of the sport tourer market. Guys coming off of sportbikes who want something powerful that doesn't weigh 700lbs.

Nothing high tech about a crossplane. Yamaha weren't even the first to mount it in a bike. Not by a longshot.

The cm450 was one of the most fun, elemental bikes I have ever known. I wouldn't have paid a dollar over $250 for it

It's also cheap too. Would you pay $30k for it? Fuck no...

Not a freaking chance. Honestly, I can't see myself ever paying more than 10k for a bike.

Thats the target audience I'm seeing for the bike too. For a basic sport tourer with none of the bells and whistles there are plenty of other alternatives out there for half the price, with a reputation for reliability and quality, and even more with all the goooonannys and whatzits added in.

I think there is a market out there for the bike at the $30k price point, just not a big one. If they want to make it the standard american sport tourer/naked/sportbike, then they need to fill in the hole that buell left behind at the near 10k price point. If they fill in the niche that buell opened up with their departure and they can get a decent dealer network, at bigger dealerships than a boutique shop based network could support. Buell however was successful because they were able to develop their bikes relatively cheaply, enabling them to pass the low costs on to their customers.

The low price point also kept the must buy UHMURICAN! people in the target audience. Price gets too high and those people can't afford the bike.

See I don't believe there is much market for a $30k bike... not much at all. Hence why you seen so many of those priced bike manufactures die off.

I also, agree, that there should be some basic bells & whistles. If not standard at least optional. ABS should be a must. For me, any touring bike should have it. You pack allot of weight on these bikes for trips and sometimes much if not all of it up high (center of gravity). In a panic stop you need all the help you can get. I know when I ordered my Ultra it had to have ABS on it. No other way, especially at only $700.

If they are in the 30k range, I'm betting most that can drop that kind of coin for a touring bike would buy a new Wing. Just sayin'...

I'd rather have the new k1600, shit has all the bells and whistles and a little more sporty.

Agreed, I am seeing more sport tourers that are a bit more sport oriented. I was/am happy with my aprilia for that reason. Bikes like the FJR and the connie are way more touring oriented. Now withthe new vfr, the sprint GT and even the ninja 1000 there are more choices out there.

For 30k I would expect at least a few bells/whistles for the touring aspect of things.

That, and you are dealing with an unknown brand (with untested customer support), usually with a limited dealer network and difficult parts availability. Realistically how many people are willing to put up with that instead of buying one of the new BMW K bikes, even if the prices end up being the same. Unique things are often unique for a reason.

What are the specs on this thing? Are most of the larger parts made here?
