What type is it?
I have a Ryobi one and it sucks gonads. The engine is weak and it has an auto stopping end but the damn engine will bog completely down or kill itself when trying to spin it back up.

Two strong/fast ones I've used before is a Craftsman and Troy. I think they were 80cc or something. They'd cut down a small tree.

I didn't shoot it.
I threw it.
Then I hit it.
With a hammer.

It was a Ryobi, and you're right, it was the biggest piece of shit I ever owned.

Get the 4 stroke Craftsman....last weed whacker / edger you'll evah buy.
It's bullet proof (with decent care) and works like a beast.

I'm on my second Ryobi. Never again. When this one finally pisses me off beyond the point of no return I'll be getting a Stihl or Echo.

My father recently got a 4 stroke Honda. He had a 2 stroke Stihl that was not running well at all. He said if I could fix it, I could have it. So I took a screw driver and smashed it through the spark arrestor with an old Brake Rotor he had laying there.
I've got myself a nice Stihl Trimmer now:D

Dried grass... Sparks... What could possibly go wrong?
I kid of course. With 2-strokes, simple is better.
I'm taking all of this in as I will be needing bigger and better lawn equipment soon. It'll need to take care of a crapload of tall grass and the thick stuff that grows in swampy areas.

Yeah, I hated my Ryobi with a passion and it pissed me off for the last time about two summers ago and last year I bought the Stihl. That thing is great. Little rough to start every now and then but mostly a three puller.

I swore off 2 strokes forever as a lawn tool.
I have the 4 stroke Craftsman now and haven't looked back...I love the fact that it doesn't feed line too. Much more convenient to just cut 2 or 3 pieces from the roll....put a couple in my pocket...and go to work. If/when the one in the machine wears out, take one from my pocket it and thread it into the head...takes 2 or 3 seconds and you don't even have to shut down to do it.

Now that I like.
The feed head thing is a major pain in the ass. The fucking things never work right.
Last year I bolted up a used 10" chop saw blade, which worked great, but was a tad..... hazardous.

Yes, they work much better for that little "Saw" scene that you might want to act out.

You want to talk dangerous that works great? Try a piece of brake or clutch cable.
Nothing stops it ( not even skin )

I bought a nice Echo 2 stroke, has diff attachments for blowers, limb cutters, n stuff like that, weed whacker works great, I barely need to get it passed idle.
For those that have 4 strokes.. How do you edge with them? I typically hold it upside down, wouldn't it be like doing a wheelie for your weed whacker's motor? lol

Friend next door just bought one of these about a month ago and loves it. While it's tempting, I just don't think it would cut it for my lawn; we have too much grass/weeds at the bottom that I can't use the mower to reach. I think it would take 2 battery changes.

Yeah, but could you REALLY edge with that thing?
I hate edging weedeaters, the guard for edging usually just gets in my way all the damn time. I am not anal enough to have a perfectly edged yard anyway. Just give me a standard weedeater.

Still have your premix? Napalm the grass. Works wonders on tent caterpillars and makes a rather satisfying little mushroom cloud.

A lot of them now have rotating ends, so you just turn it 90* to edge. I don't edge, so I don't care.

I had a 2 stroke ryobi, lasted 3 years working great, then started pissing gas everywhere. I bought it for $90, would cost me $60 to get the parts to fix it. So, I spent $80 on a battery one. Came with 2 batteries, takes me 3 to do my lawn. It's nice cause it starts every time, but it's not real powerful and is slow. For someone in town with 2 trees to trim around, it would be fine. On my acre lot, it's lacking.

I don't have a lot to trim, but the grass/weeds here are so damn thick I'd worry about the lack of power.... especially when edging.
