Man, Youtube and Facebook both busted my Jiu Jitsu highlight video that I spent hours making yesterday. I actually didn't know you couldn't use Copyrighted music (Disturbed in this case) in something that was not made to generate profit.
Can someone tell me how to find non-copyrighted music I could use? Or how to get away with using the music I already have synced up...?

Search for royalty free music on google... there are a lot of sites out there that offer the option. Posting on Vimeo is another option. ;)

If you have less than 45 seconds, you don't need permission... just FYI.

If youre lucky you can pick a song/publisher who will just put adds for the music in your video instead of DMCAing you.

Hmm, why then are there thousands of fan-made trailers with copyrighted music on Youtube? I can't count the number of those things that have the LOTR soundtrack on them, or the Matrix soundtrack, or something from Danzig, Pantera, etc.

Depends on the rights holder. Some dont actively search for copyrights violations or them might be smart enough to know that videos like that tend to increase sales. Some use an automated algorithm to find copyrighted songs. They scan YouTube videos for a particular audio pattern and take them down when its found.

Just checked the 3 of mine that had a "view copyright info" link by them. One had the audio disabled.
At least this one is still active. One of the best intro songs I've used.

How is it stealing when the vids aren't being sold, we're not making money off of them, they're promoting any kind of sale, and we're not taking credit for making the songs? You'd have to be fucking retarded, no really you'd have to be fucking retarded to think people own these songs that attach them to their vids.
I think the whole thing us a croc of shit. I've had done of my videos silenced because of music I used.
The problem its that you aren't making money, although if you get enough views you could. The problem is that youtube makes money off them and they don't want to get sued so if someone makes a copyright claim then they take it down.
My problem is that by the same logic if I make a video if my motorcycle, honda can make a copyright claim and get my video taken down too

Ya. Copying is so lame.
It doesnt matter at all, its only hurting the music company because they arent getting their music out there, and when people do want their music they get punished for using it

Sucks because I actually paid for the songs I was trying to use in the initial video.

Hmmm.............If youtube would start selling music, then you could attach songs you paid for. http://fast1.onesite.com/community.wizards.com/smileys/lightbulb.gif
