well I've been here for about 2 1/2 months now. I can honestly say I love the job although it is very challenging and definitely not what was advertised. Florida will take getting used to. I haven't found everything I want yet although I haven't looked a lot either.
Still hanging out in the camper, thinking about a house but I hate to be stuck with two of them. The house up north is not selling at all. no surprise there. Going to bulldoze it I think and build a hunting cabin. Not an ideal location but it will do.
It's been fun meeting new people here, both at work and OSP at the pub. the "adventure" part is over. Now I have to start "settling in" I guess.
I have done a few weekends at the beach of course.

was it worth it? tough to answer. I don't have a lot of friends being mostly a loaner type. Though now days I find I miss the few times we would hang out. I don't miss my old job at all. I do miss my garage, especially after doing a brake job in the baking heat here. In the sand of course.
I miss the house, the girlfriend and even the dogs. (though they'll be here soon).
Lots of new opportunities here though so I'll explore a bit before I decide to go back to familiar ground. Not too sure about hunting here with snakes and bugs.LOL I may go north for that.
The bad part is even though I love this job it is the most stressful position I've ever had. Not sure how long I can keep up this pace. Many have tried recently and been let go or quit.

all in all I'd do it again but, I like an "adventure" now and then. I tend to get bored when things stay the same for too long.

Man, sounds like everything with the job ended up like what we talked about... Tough, but at least it's keeping you busy... We should grab a beer again sometime...

How about those Orlando drivers? All of those vacationing tourists cutting across 3-4 lanes of traffic on I-4 to jump off at an exit at the last second makes for some fun driving, no?

20lbs less than the last time since this topic came up...

For my money the locals are worse...

thanks for the comments guys.

Drewpy, I'll get on that, have to get a pic of my current place.

OSP we should definitely do that. Maybe wait a couple weeks and the better half will be here permanently. she is here this weekend for an interview at the big rat cage.

Lee yeah the drivers, I think like OSP said the locals are worse. the thing I hate the most is "pacing" you so you can't get on the highway from an on ramp. last week I looked over at the driver doing it and it was an offduty cop in a BMW. I avoid HWY 4 at all costs. I learned that many years ago coming to see my dad every year.

I'll keep you informed as we go.

The switch definitely takes getting used to. I honestly never really felt I adjusted to PA - I took NY and NJ a bit better due to the smartass sarcasm and brutal honesty.

There are two things I both loathe and love about FL. The slow attitude (beautiful on the boat -enough to make ghandi a spree killer in traffic) and the smile and sugar coat. ( you have to learn to interpret "that's different!" or "hmm that's interesting. Which basically means you frosted a turd!)

There are some unbelievably down to earth and honest people. I can't say enough about the friendhships that I still try to hold on to.

Thomas Wolfe was right “One belongs to New York instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years” I don't know if it's more that I belong to NY or Steve. I do know that Wolfe was even more right I can't go home again. FL will never be the home I left. ( but the Cuban and greek food is still better than NYC ;) )

Holy smoke!! I haven't seen anything from you in a very long time.

I totally agree about the slower pace. love and hate it.

wisconsin does the same thing with the "oh that's different" thing. That's one of the things I like most about this job is people not trying to backstab you by telling others just how different your ideas are.

Not sure how long it would take to really gel here. at work it took a few weeks before folks really accepted you,m that was ok. in town I don't really get out a lot so hard to say.

not sure if I would go back to wisconsin or not. I have gone back before and appreciated somethings about it that I had missed.

another update the better half had an interview at Disney last Mon. As of day after Labor Day she will be working at the mouse house. She was very happy to get the position.

Congrats.

Please don't let her become one of those brainwashed Disney employees that fills their house with everything Disney. I knew a few people like that when I lived in O-Town and it was so sad to see how their lives were not complete unless everything they owned had a Disney trademark or character on it of some sort.

Oh, and if she can, get her to take you on a tour of the underground portion of Disney World. Pretty neat to see - about the only thing worthwhile there.
