I've had a message pop up on a forum I'm on asking me to disable my adblock on their forum. It happens several times a day.
I understand they want ad revenue. At the same time, they run a shop off of their forum and also want people to buy from them. But, that's the purpose of adblock, so I don't have to see that shit.
Have you guys been seeing this on any other sites? Would the universe collapse if I block their "adblock detector" page?

Sounds like a micromanager Admin. I doubt his advertisers can tell how many users have adblock, so what does he care.

Im on two forums that are infested with ads. It takes a long time to load even on my cable. Its funny that the adds load before anything else. Fuck ads.

Cause he probably gets paid via ad views. If no one loads the ads, he doesn't get paid.

The forum has a pretty large store. They're expecting people to build up the forum database, buy from the shop and view the ads. I fully intend to buy things from them if the price is right. On the other hand, I'd never buy something because of an ad on a forum. If anything, I'm saving them money on bandwidth by not loading em.
If there's one thing everybody here knows, there's always another forum willing to fill a void.

Ads don't cost him bandwidth, they load off the advertisers servers, so all you are doing is costing him money.

I'm okay with an ad at the top or something - I'm all for the site admin getting something to keep the site running.
However, ads all over the fucking place or ads that have nothing to do with the forum type or ads that are downright dumb gets 'em blocked. Period.
Ads for this place make enough to piss me off. Not worth putting up with the ads for the pennies it produces...
I did have an offer from some dude with a yahoo account to buy the forum for $35k, lol

I know a Nigerian king who would like to buy your forum for 1,000,000$ USD. If you send me your bank information and social security number, I'll be happy to have the money transferred to you.
