Good luck Tommy. I know you're needed at the hospital but try to keep safe ( above water level, in interior rooms{ away from windows } )

Even though it's been downgraded to cat 1 storm, that's still a lot of wind and rain for a low area.

yes and no, as far as the local municipalities I can throw my weight around and get inot places. The downside is if I go to work i can be mandated to stay untill relief arrives. I may not go in tonight depending on how things look. I live 30 miles from th ehosp so they can come pick me up if they want.

It's not that. Just that the media has once again made this situation out to be more than it is for those of you that far up North. Just like with the quake last week.

I'm sure NC is getting some bad flooding and minor wind damage, but by the time the storm makes it further North I suspect it won't be much of an event. Hopefully everyone in NC, especially the OBX area, is OK.

I thinjk were going to see something prety bad up here, at least for our standards. With all the shutdowns including coney island hospital this could be for real up here esp since a good part of this area is low laying near the ocean nad bays

You keep bringing up Katrina, I get it your from Louisiana. Cat 5 Storms have slammed The States before and while causing significant damage have not caused what Katrina Caused...But i'm not comparing Katrina To Irene...But your Naive and Heartless if you really think that this was "just a little water" caused by a "weak" storm...It caused Billions Dollars in damaged and killed almost 30 people that they know of so far...Peoples homes were washed away...Much like Katrina...and it was 4 times less powerful.

Katrina wasnt the first storm to slam into the Gulf in over 50 years...For someone who lives in the northeast and has NEVER seen something like this in my area in my lifetime, Excuse me for possibly showing some compassion with those who are infact dealing with major life changing issues.

Well we are comparing it to other storms, that's why people say it was a weak storm. People die for tiny little thunderstorms that produce tornadoes. Homes get washed away from just too much rain. Shit happens, it happens all the time. People lose everything in fires every day. Bad shit happens. However, when you compare this hurricane to others, it was small and didn't cause all that much damage.

Excuse me while I go play the world's smallest violin for your melted ice cream.

Oh look there is you saying how other people was saying it was a weak storm.

I don't have a jaded sense of destruction of a Hurricane, because I actually have lived through a lot of them. I have a very realistic and accurate view of the destruction these storms cause. Your very limited experience in hurricanes gives you an incredible jaded view of these storms. You even admitted how the people up there have no clue what to expect. See the idiots out in the streets streaking and driving in the middle of the storm.

Get over the poor us shit and acknowledge it was a weak ass hurricane, wait it wasn't even a hurricane when it made it to you, so that makes it even worse. Yes, there was some damage, people lost their stuff and home, but it wasn't complete leveling of towns bad. That type of destruction is quite common for storms down towards the south coastal regions. The 3 feet rolling through your living room is considered "lucky" in the storms down there. Relocating your living room to the other side of town is considered a bad thing.
