Anyone have reccomendations on stuff to do during the week there? Husband has to go for training in a couple weeks and I am tagging along.
It doesn't look like the most exciting city ever, but it's an excuse to get out of town for a few days. :)
Hang out with kel and Leon

I don't know about Ft Lauderdale, but I'm in Fort Walton Beach right now for work. I can tell you that this place is awesome. That probably doesn't help you, but I don't really care because I've been drinking on the beach all day. ;)

And that right there is what you do in any part of Florida.

leave and go to miami.
Not unless she speaks Spanish. And if she's by herself and unfamiliar with the area I'd say maybe not such a great idea.
I don't know what you like to do, but.....
As for Fort Lauderdale, you can spend one day on the beach and shopping/eating/drinking at Beach Place.
You can also go shopping out at Sawgrass Mills. There's also lots of little shops and restaurants on Las Olas.
You can check out the Bonnet House - historical museum and gardens.
There's Butterfly World in Coconut Creek.
Best bet would be to try and reach out to Kel and Leon or some of the other SoFL peeps.

Listen to Lee, not derf. Keep your white self north of the Miami-Dade line.
If you want adventure, there is indoor rock climbing, indoor go karts, parasailing and sky-diving.
If you want the beach, Ft. Lauderdale's is world famous.
If you want to chill, and see rich people's houses you can hop on the water taxi or Jungle Queen.
If you want to drink until 4am, there is a reason it is called Ft. Liquordale.
If you have a car, you can head west and tour the Everglades (catch an airboat ride).
Or cruise A1A (with the rag top down so your hair can blow).
High-end shopping? Las Olas.
Future trophy wives on the prowl? Blue Martini
I'll think of more later.

I went to Miami once...that was enough.
I like to do stuff I can't do at home, so the air-boat tour of the Everglades sounds fucking awesome.
Being a ginger, the beach is not my favorite place, but I'll check it out with some SPF nine billion.
I'm all about museums and local history so I'll look up the Bonnet House.
Shopping is lame as hell...that's what the internet is for.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take more.
Does Kel ever get on here anymore?

Great suggestions from Shmike. Didn't think about the airboat rides.

I've never understood why they would put something that would be a great outdoor activity indoors...

Haven't seen her in awhile... Ping her on FB.

you have clearly never been to that area
That said, where you'll be it's very close to good dining and some fun places to go at night. Not much going on there during the day other than the beach that you can wall to... Hit up Kel for sure. We did that last time Evs and I stayed there.

Looks black down your way.
Are you downtown? You can do a museum.
Beachplace is mostly covered if you want to eat/drink/buy stupid touristy shit.
There are still those indoor outdoor activities available.
Hit Galleria Mall if you are getting cabin fever.

I'm not downtown. I'm near 17th and 1A? Or 1? Something.
I also don't have a rental car, something I will need to remedy real quick.
I saw a sign that said "Art Museum" down 17th, but the only thing I can see on the map is at like 2nd street downtown.
By my calculations that is 14 blocks farther than I am will to walk in the rain.

Well, Beach Place is just North of you on A1A. I also recommend checking out the 17th St. Fisheries restaurant and feeding the tarpon that live there. You can also catch one of the water taxis at their dock. Its just on the West side of the 17th St. bridge.
