How awesome Austin is.
Maybe we can dissuade would-be-Austinites and reroute them to Dallas or OKC? They're both on the list...for whatever reason.

I'd question the list. They put Augusta, GA on there. Everyone I know from Augusta (and that is a lot) now live in Atlanta or Afganistan.
Can you allow one more? I'm fixing to apply to various schools, including the University of Texas-Austin. They have a top ranking Chemistry program and I'm trying to get out of my POS school and into a good University that is worth a shit.
I just hate hippies and over the top football fans. Pleeeeeaaaase tell me Austin doesn't have that shit.

Yes, she bought that car JUST to tailgate with. She's a little into it. The guy was some random person that walked by.

That makes me want to punch babies.
I live in Atlanta (the city, not the suburbs) and they recently had a football game between the University of Georgia and some other school in Atlanta. Normally they seclude themselves to Athens and cheesy sports bars if outside of athens. They fucking drove me nuts. I was hoping the thugs of Atlanta would keep it real and blast their yellowish shorts and tucked in pink alligator symbol shirt plus visor wearing at 2 in the morning asses back to... well wherever UGA football fans come from.
UGA fans have got to be the worst football fans period. I also don't understand the appeal to college football vs pro. My only conclusion is that Southern Men can't stand watching a black man make money.
I just need to find a good school with a good physics or biochem program that doesn't have a football team or at least one that doesn't matter. NYU Abu Dhabi is appealing more to me everyday.

Hahahahhaa. Sooo freaking true.
Guys play college sports for 2 but really one reason. 1 - stepping stone for most to go pro. 2 - for the nookie (though they are wanting to go pro for the nookie). Though if you go straight to the pros you still get nookie.

Stay away from S. Ga...ESPECIALLY if you aren't a sports fanatic. Valdosta is called Title Town because its' two HIGH SCHOOLS, yeah I said high schools, have won more championships, blah blah buncha crap, etc...I officially HATE football of any kind after living here. Pro ball? They probly dont even know what it is, but they are so wrapped up in their high school ball they throw tailgating parties, lie on school applications to get their kid into one or the other high school, even get arrested for football related nonsense. Gawd forbid these kids pass in actual classes, if they can play ball the coaches get ppl to do their homework. Hate it. Buncha fanatics.
As far as Austin, ya'll can keep it, I prefer the DFW area myself...

I legitimately don't understand the appeal of DFW or Houston. They are just a giant mall/church.
I bet the have a church with a mall in it. And a Chili's or Applebee's too. That would define DFW perfectly.
Actually my dad refers to it as "the soul-sucking monster of Texas" It's got no soul, man.

Don't count me off yet. I am a natural born Texan so I feel I have a right to go anywhere in Texas. I'm just looking for the best schools more than anything. I just don't want to dorm with a bunch of dumbass drunk freshmen if I have to go the dorm route. I'd probably kill someone. I'd only have to deal with it for 2 years and then once i get to med school I doubt I'll have to deal with that at all.

Honey, it's basic English. It's a contraction. The two words involved are "You" and "All". You are removing the "ou" (haha) from "you", so you would put the ' in place of the removed letters.
Just like the rest of the English language, spelling has nothing to do with pronunciation.

Stay away from Austin if you hate Georgia fans that much, Texas fans are worse than Georgia fans. At least Georgia has the honor belonging to the best conference in college football and can hang their hat on being part of good football. Texas fans pretend to themselves (thanks to ESPN) that they are actually worth a damn every year, but when in reality, they are shitty and in a terrible conference. Oh and they are going to be the reason their terrible conference falls apart too.
College football vs pro football is region thing. If you live in a city that has pro football, you are more likely to watch that more since you have access. I watched the Saints a lot more when I lived in New Orleans. Now that live in a college town, I tend to watch college more. Atlanta has got to be interesting since they offer both with Georgia. High school ball is fun to watch when you live where there is good teams, like Rae. The Louisiana Catholic league games are fun as shit to watch because it is on the level of some college teams since they actually nationally recruit. The Florida high schools are the same way.

Smittie, I despise football and I survive just fine here. But, I'm not on the college campus.
Great thing about Austin is that there is a group of people for every different walk of life or interest...well mostly.
My closest friends hate football as much as I do, so I never have to worry about it. And there are lots of hippies, but you can avoid them pretty easy.

Austin, big & shiny?
It's more of a college town to me.
What they're saying is, Austin is more culture mecca, while Dallas is more generic, big retail chains, etc.
After looking that list over, I don't want to live anywhere on that top 10 except for maybe Boulder. Can't believe they ranked anywhere in Michigan as a "good" place to live.
Somewhere around Boulder wouldn't be bad, but Boulder is to pricey compared to places around it that are just as good.
They'd have to pay me a LOT to move back to Dallas.... to each their own :) it has its good points, and perhaps it doesnt get a fair shake from me because i was in a bot-great situation the majority of my time there, but it is what it is.

Lists like this often remind me of the Travel Channel "Best __________". For example I watched "the best beaches of the Carribean". All they did was showcase resorts that I think the producers just wanted to stay at and have a reason to have the Travel Channel pay for their vacation and to write off expenses on their taxes. Basically they're biased as hell.
As for the SEC shit. Last thing I need a Georgia fan to hear. I'm more concerned with rankings of schools for the degree I want. Personally I think the more important football is to a school the dumber it is (with few exceptions). Also the more hardcore a college football fan is, the less likely it is they have ever stepped on campus much less been to that college (or any college).

I would agree. Ranked 19 via US News and World Report (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/page+2). Next closest one I could think of or find was Georgia Tech at #36.

Unless you are going to go into doctorate programs or other high end degrees, rankings mean shit as does "honors programs." No one discusses this shit outside of college except in your "interview" and it's not really going to get you anywhere besides maybe a nice little cookie.
You need to find out where the people went to college in the company you want to work for, that's who they are going to hire. Most companies will hire from a select few colleges and if you want your foot in the door with that company, get that nice pretty degree from where your potential boss went to school and probably knows who taught you. That means a fuckload more than some stupid ranking.
Stupid things like football and sport programs make a lot of a difference in the corporate world unfortunately. Most places aren't called "good ole boy clubs" for nothing.

Well I'm going to go to Med School after so name means a lot from what I gather. When I was iin Abu Dhabi working at a hospital, a doctor found out I was from Atlanta and knew what Emory University was. Never heard of Georgia Tech or UGA.
More importantly, I'm trying to get into the highest ranking Physics or Biochemistry school. UNC-Chapel Hill ranks 6th in Chemistry but I don't believe they are ranked high in any general listing. So I'd choose them over say the College of William and Mary which I don't invision having a huge science program.
Honors can blow my fucking balls. I get scam invites every fucking day and all they want is my fucking money.
