View Full Version : OK, so ummm, time for new bike anyone?

I think the time approaches where I need to replace my worn and weary EX500, or give it a rest so I can rebuild it completely. On the end of a 50 mile trip today, it decides to piss coolant ALL THE FUCK OVER my foot from one of those evil coolant tubes in the head.

Now I'm stuck at home working on my bike, which was going to be a cool streetfighter until this, and may still be when I finish fixing the goddamn coolant leak.

If not, I'm just going to finance a new bike and say the hell with it. warranty. nuff said.

I'm leanin myself toward one of a few bikes, either an old Hurricane 600, an XR650L, or a VFR800 interceptor. alternately, I'd be content as hell with a WR250X.

woo! hurricane 600! do it! i def miss mine, found her on craigslist for 1100 and she never let me down. great bike

not yet... I'll have 40k before I upgrade... so hope'n early 2010...

there needs to be more V-Twins re-introduced into the market!

The front end is way too compressed. Not good.

The Hurricane's, damn those were great bikes..top of the line in their hay day. I'd put my 2 cents in for a Interceptor as well. The early 2k models seem to suffer from some electrical woes but overall they are a great bike and people swear by them....or at them when they hit the repair shop because they can be pricey to work on but it sounds like you do a lot of your own work so that won't be so much of an issue possibly?

i let him know that the front forks needed rebuilding and i cut $100 off of my sale price for a new rear shock. all parties were satisfied :dthumb:

The early 2k models seem to suffer from some electrical woes but overall they are a great bike and people swear by them....or at them when they hit the repair shop because they can be pricey to work on but it sounds like you do a lot of your own work so that won't be so much of an issue possibly?

A buddy was looking into the VFR800s and I looked into them myself. From what I gathered the most disired are the late 90s early 2000s. The 2003 I think and up have V-tec in them but are costly to repair and adjust because of it. With the gain from it being minimul so most go for the late 90s and early 2000 VFRs.

Find you a CBR600 F3/2 or hell even an F4. You can pick them up cheap and in good condition.

the vtec bikes are disliked also for jerking when the cam's change lobes. not a good occurance when one is leaned over

Being the only one of that list I've ridden, I'd say the VFR. VFR's seem to have a very, very loyal following of devout fans/riders, and I think it might be the most versatile bike of the ones you listed as well.
