I don't remember which thread it was, but there was a lot of posting in it about the best stuff to use for cleaning your carbs.

Carb cleaner, as I recall, was an obvious favorite.

Since then, (yesterday actually) I've had an opportunity to try out something I saw on another forum.

Pinesol.

I soaked a thirty year old DellOrto in it overnight. Hit it with a toothbrush, rinsed it out in really hot water, and blew it dry with comp. air.

The verdict... I'm impressed. It's clean as hell, cheap, and you can smoke while you do it.

Pinesol is great for lots of stuff. Between Pinesol and Pledge, I don't generally buy moto-specific cleaners... That reminds me, I need to tear apart my generator and soak the carb (freaking ethanol)

Is that the choke lever the bowl gasket surrounds?

At first glance it looks like you circled it as if to say "Look HERE".

Well, it is sorta perty.

Yeah, I just set the o-ring down first, and the "choke assembly" , (technically it's just a fuel dump valve, as opposed to a choke) fit in it, so...it had to go somewhere.

Fresh rubber bits are due in on Friday, should be on the road Saturday night.

Nobody likes a know-it-all, so I pretend to be fallible once in a while.

It's a marketing thing.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to have to go down this path with the Shadow...

I can't remember where I saw the Pinesol method before, but i've never tried it. How does it run right out of the gate???

Shmike, I thought he circled something too.

It's running well. I wrote down the number of turns on the mix and idle screws as I took them out, so I had a baseline for sync. I've yet to do a proper sync on it, but it sounds like I've got it pretty close.
