Just a short trip to Ohio, and you too can be hunting lions.

Police seek escaped exotic animals in Ohio (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gSu-0POm2cwX1-2uKZgfuJjvr6KQ?docId=4a4e9cfbfde4449b80ed2fc4bad15 f1b)

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff says new, overnight animal sightings have not been confirmed in rural eastern Ohio, where police have killed dozens of animals that escaped from a wild-animal preserve.

Muskingum County Sheriff Sheriff Matt Lutz (lootz) told ABC's "Good Morning America" before dawn on Wednesday that he believed up to 35 of the 48 animals were accounted for. He says daylight will allow officers to get a more accurate count.

Deputies responding to the initial reports of loose bears, big cats and other beasts found the farm's owner dead on Tuesday. Authorities aren't saying how he died but say his death wasn't suspicious.

Police said the farm's fences had been left unsecured and the animals' cages were open.

So sad... those animals probably shouldn't have been in there in the first place. From the article, it doesn't seem that the preserve owner was taking very good care of them.

This story spawned the best dumbass blank stare I've seen in a while.

Me: Did you hear about those exotic animals in Ohio?
Mike: Yeah. Crazy, huh? All those lions and stuff....where do you think he got them?
Me: Africa, I'd guess?
Mike: Hey, do you think they have zoos in Africa?
Me: Yes, but I think they just call it "outside".

*blink blink* stare *blink blink*

The best part of this is the news agencies trying to avoid saying "Tigers and Lions and Bears". THey always just say "lions and tigers"

If you have the time, money, and space, then I cant think of any land animal that shouldnt be 'owned'. Nothing wrong with having lions and bears if you have the room for them.

What I am against is keeping Orca's in tanks. They are way too large, and use too much space when int he wild, to be kept in a tank.

Being an endangered species indicates that the average Joe doesn't have the skills to take care of it properly, IMO. I mean really, how much information is going to be available about taking care of certain animals like that. It isn't like dogs and horses, where they have that shit broken down to a science.

Plus what about offspring? Will they be allowed to breed, assuming there's even a male and a female available? If they can't breed, that isn't good for an endangered species. If on the other hard they do breed, what will happen to the offspring? Will they grow up properly in a non-wild environment?
