I have never owned a HF tool that lasted beyond initial use

You're doing it wrong.

Yup
You're doing it wrong.
Really?
I bought a heat gun and it melted
I bought metal cutting wheel, and they exploded
I bought a screw driver and IT stripped
I bought a C clamp and it bent
I bought a trailer and the wheel bearings were shot
I bought a drill press that couldnt press
The replacement drill press motor burnt out
The replacement to the replacement had the chuck fall out during every use
I bought a 50 year old drill press and bench grinder, neither has let me down
99% of my tools are better quality tools, craftsman, snapon, dewalt etc. Those dont let me down. Although I have learned to stay away from ryobi.

I use the $10 heat gun all the time. The C clamps do suck with high torque.

HF is the equivalent to our "Princess Auto". One time use tools.
Spend 9 bucks on an 1 3/4" socket and toss it out. Or spend $100 for a quality piece and use it once...

I guess I've just gotten lucky...
My heat gun, drill press, screwdrivers, c-clamps, etc have never failed me... I did get a set of t-handle allens that stripped when I tried to get mid evil on a frozen bolt and a miter saw that wasn't so keen on a few dozen back to back to back cuts through 1/2" aluminum, but I was definitely doing it wrong.

Me too.
I have a set of their $7 T handles. They get used for things like bodywork removal, etc. If I am going to try to break loose a stuck bolt, I bring out the Craftsman sockets.
I can promise that I have thrown out more Home Depot and Lowe's tools than I have HF tools.
Like Tmall said, if it may be a once or twice used object, I'll hit up HF if I can't borrow it.

I've had the same experience. Most of it seems ok on motorcycle or light torque stuff. But, now that I'm doing more stuff with cars I'll only buy the good stuff...

I only buy HF stuff that I wont use all the time. That being said my $10 heat gun has been used a shit ton and it's still great.

Exactly... I think I got my t-handles for free anyway... I wouldn't buy their stuff for daily use, but for something that's going to be used here and there or light duty application, fuck spending 2-10x as much for even the Craftsman alternative...

That thing looks like it's designed to break.
I wouldn't buy it from either one of those places, even if it is made of rust free aluminum...

I have not had the best luck with HF stuff either. Brought home a chain breaker from there and the chain effed it up royally.

I bought 2 traielrs from them with no issues and I never greased the bearrings on my first one. Bought soem wrenches and soem allen sockets from them that have held up rather well, also got some bits for removing bearrings and installing races that seemed to work ok but you can tell were cheaply made.
