Yeah, he's a beast... He's an MMA guy, who pretty much dropped off the face of the earth for a couple of years and came back with about 45lbs of additional muscle... when questioned, he said he did it by eating horse meat.

And "by eating horse meat" he means he injected steroids into himself before eating horse meat.

Or ate horse meat in a steroid/worchestershire blend.

The ban was only put into place in 2006. I never remember seeing horse meat before 2006. If I saw horse meat on a menu I would definitely give it a try.

I'd try it, I'd guess the main reason people don't like this idea is because horses are considered pets in this country like dogs and cats...

We had a Mare breaks it leg when I was a teen. My father wasn't about to bury all that meat. We ate it for about 6 moths. It was a bit distinctive in flavor but delicious.

I tried it once a few years ago, similar situation to what nhgunnut had. A horse was permanently injured, its owner put it down cut it up and sure well for a while. I wouldn't say it was good, tasted like a tang steak

I always wondered what Tang was made out of.

I love hearing stories like this because I cannot comprehend a life where this would happen. Much respect. :dthumb:

Same here.
I'm not going out of my way to find it, but if it were served to me I'd give it a try.

I'd try it. Never heard of it being available anywhere, though. Why was the ban put in place and what caused it to be lifted?

I know it had something to do with Willie Nelson.

I dunno, this might be something extremely bad for us. I mean really is there a substitute ingredient for horse in glue? What will happen to the worlds glue supply?

So is Jello.

Fuck, we might run out of Jello!

That could seriously impact the midget stripper industry.

Horse slaughter was banned because of animal rights blah blah blah...

They finally opened peoples eyes to realize that more horses were suffering because they were unable to slaughter. So old decrepit horses, and those with injuries, etc were forced to be strung along, using more feed that could be better used for healthy horses.

Sort of reminds me of Mike Rowe talking about castrating the sheep and how wrong we are about some of the things we think we know.

Just because something seems more humane doesn't mean it's necessarily better for the animal(s) in the grand scheme of things.
