Like the title says, Kimi Raikkonen is back in Formula 1 and signs a 2 year deal with Lotus Renault.... or whatever the hell they want to be called next year.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/formula_one/15934329.stm

There was confusion last week after Renault announced that Robert Kubica, who raced for the team before he was injured in a rallying accident in February, would not return to the sport next season.

However, the Pole's manager told BBC Sport that Kubica was still focused on returning in 2012. Meanwhile, Raikkonen was strongly linked with a move to Williams in place of veteran racer Rubens Barrichello. But on Tuesday, Renault confirmed Raikkonen, who has 18 wins and 62 podiums in F1, in the seat.

Cool.

Barrichello has been going nowhere anyway. Dude needs to drive faster, or fucking retire.

Fuck, I read that wrong. Fucking F1. Fuck.

It is AWESOME!... He was my favorite driver!!!

If you must know, he a Finnish driver that won a Formula 1 championship for Ferrari in 2007. He also should have won the championship in 2003 and 2005 for McLaren had it not been for some technical problems. He was somewhat pushed out of Ferrari at the end of 2009 to make way for Fernando Alonso (and to dump his $51 Million salary). He kinda said "fuck you" and went to World Ralley Championship. Rumors surfaced that he was talking to Williams for a seat, but Renault is a much more competitive spot.

Named the Iceman for his calm, collected, and somewhat cold personality...

Look at the car he is in though.... I feel bad for Rubens. I knew when Button beat him a few years back with Brawn GP, it was over for him. That was his last chance in a competitive car. They need to let him have his 20th year farewell tour, and then send him off to pasture...

I agree, the Brawn car was a great chassis, and the (relatively speaking) POS he was in last year, didn't stand a chance.

If it wasn't for Shumi, Rubens would have had 3-4 World Championships under his belt by now.

Are you thinking of the right team? Factory Renault.... not Team Lotus.

F1 just approved name changes for next year. Factory Renault will now be Lotus Renault GP. What used to be Team Lotus will now be Caterham F1. Virgin Racing will now become Marussia F1.

Factory Renault has shown to be a very competitive car with a good driver in it. Ole' Bobby Kubica looked really good in the Renault a season ago before he got injured. Petrov and Heidfeld/Senna are not top tier drivers like Kubica and Raikkonen.

Yep you got me on that one, wrong team.

I think Raikkonen will do well for them, he was always a very competitive, top tier driver. I was just thinking with that Lotus team, their cars didn't put out a good show from the hand full of races I watched this year.

I wish F1 would come back to Indy, I loved watching it there (2 years, and just because it was close) even though it will probably never happen.

Kimi's going to make things interesting. He's only been out for two years, but that can still make a difference. Pushed out of Ferrari? Uh, don't think so. His attitude was crappy, and he couldn't get along w/the team. He basically quit.

I wish Rubens had good ride. He's a great driver. Look at all of the podium finishes he's had. He and Schumi were a great team for Ferrari.

Too bad we're going to have to go to NEW JERSEY to see a US F1 race. I was so looking forward to Austin. Weather would've been perfect.

Not with Austin and New Jersey....

Bullshit... he got pushed out. Yea, he basically said "fuck you" when the Alonso talk started to get heavy. But he was being shoved aside and eveybody knows it. It all started when Tobt stepped down and Dominicali took Massa's favor.

Raikkonen, who won the world title for Ferrari in 2007, was forced out of Ferrari at the end of this season to make way for Fernando Alonso, despite already having a year left on his contract. <<<< Straight from BBC's racing section.
