I went out to pick up my annual/bi-annual safety boots...

Found these boots.... they are water proof, non-metalic toe (good in winter cold), a super grip soul, and this new lace thing.

Red Wing Safety Boots - 4216 Red Wing Men's - 6-Inch Boot Brown (http://www.redwingsafety.com/safety-boot/4216-safe-us/4216-red-wing-mens-6-inch-boot-brown/industry-oil-gas/filter-oil-gas-resistance-outsole-best,red-wing-brand,safety-toe,waterproof)

You twist the knob on the tongue and it tightens the aircraft braided cable that acts as laces. It tightens the entire shoe, and you are basically "tieing" your laces with 2 fingers NOT 2 hands. Plus it never loosens like laces do.

Want to take off your boots? Pull the knob out and keep pulling to put the tongue and put slack to your boot. Kick em off.

All of it is backed with a lifetime warranty. It's super cool. I like em... only negative... where they are made, which I just noticed when I looked up the link. Grrrr

Sidi's new boots have that twist cable lock mechanism also.

And there's a pair of MX knee braces with them as well... Looks pretty trick.

I like that. it's different. I may have to hunt down a pair to try on. I wonder how long that little twist knob setup will hold up for.

I like that a lot as well. Wonder how much I could get them for without having to order online - have to shop around here.

China???!? REDWING boots made in China? Fuck.

My husband needs new work boots, I'll show them to him. But, where they're made bugs me...

I hope that you don't think that that concept of the twist cable tie method of securing shoes is new. Its been out for quite some time now. I think I tried a pair like that on about 8 years ago when I first got back to Michigan.

Does nobody ski or snowboard? That technology has been on boots for years.

I have seen them on the Sidi boots recently. Im worried that in a crash those wire could be cut, and the boot would fly off... Probably an irrational fear, but whatever.

I'm in the market for work boots too.

As far as made in America, I think Justin boots are the only ones I have seen a "hand crafted in America" sticker
http://www.justinboots.com/boots/Justin_Original_Workboots_Splash.html

I've had Redwings and thought they weren't what hype is for the money I paid. They wore out just as quick as Rocky, Georgia Boot, and Wolverine.

I try. Not easy, but it might be if more people tried...

That's the problem. It's tough now.

It's not a new thing but it's a new red wing thing.

The cables are stainless steel braded cable in there. I'm pretty sure they are stronger than string laces.

You know they say you revert back to a child as you get old. This thread helps that theory. Cant wait until I reach the age were velcro straps are back in style with my age. :lol

Now one thing I do like is the laced front with zipper on the side. I got these kick ass black boots I wear while riding that are stiff and have the side zipper. When I'm at a destination, I just unzip the sides and walk comfortably.

Yep.

I don't think it is possible to avoid all together but some is better than none.

Even when you do that, there is no guarantee that they don't buy some of the raw material from China.

It's pretty much impossible to escape giving some money to china unless you produce everything yourself.

Ditto on the ski/snowboard boots. AT LEAST five years old. Several brands have come out with two and three zone adjustment now. I have a single zone, and it's still total win. Completely even adjustment down the entire boot. :boobs:

I was extremely leery of the lace breaking at first, but from what I've found, it's no harder to relace than traditional. Only trick is popping the ratchet apart, and it's not much different than a weedeater head.

Is the lace line plastic or steel braided w/ plastic coating since it says electrical hazard?

Tommy. How do you go about removing patient shoes?

That bit was mostly in sarcastic jest. I couldn't give a shit where money goes or who suffers as long as I'm satisfied with the product

Yup. I've used these on snowboard boots. They actually work quite well.

Braided stainless with a plastic coating to prevent corrosion and reduce friction. Kind of like stainless brake lines.
