Looked at the website. Is BMW not gonna be there AGAIN ? I really want to check out the 1600 GTL.

BMW has taken to only attending the bigger shows I believe. Daytona, Long Beach, NYC.

They weren't at Dallas this year either. :/

BMW is picky about where they spend their budget. They have two show trucks. Dallas was the weekend before Long Beach. And, set up is Thursday. Tough haul to get to each show. Their attitude is to go big on the two biggest shows.

Besides, they are making the numbers on the GT and GTL that they expected. The entire demo fleet for 2011 was the big inline 6. Delivery status on orders is "good luck."

The demo fleet for 2012 is going back to at least one of every model, including the new scooter. Yay!

Yup, the local bmw dealership is right around the corner from my house, and they make great coffee. They are advertising that they can get you a GT or a GTL by the end of the summer. BUT they do have a few in the store that they use as loaners and test rides, in fact if you bring one of the more expensive touring BMWs in for service, you will most likely get the big inline 6. Plus if you ask for a ride they will take you out for one.

I got to take one out and I really believe that somehow BMW managed to shrink down a bunch of midgets and hide them all over the bike to do stuff for you, like in the seat where they massage your balls.

The GTL is was designed to take on the goldwing, there is no doubt in my mind about that.

Great, I havent seen them since they were in Cleveland three years ago. I was sort of interested in seeing the F8R up close.

Any word if Triumph and Aprilia are back in the circuit? They haven't been in cleveland in two years either.

Nope, it handles like a sport bike, rides like a caddy, and has the storage space of a semi

I think it's a little too sporty to be a direct goldwing competitor. It's more inbetween a goldwing and something like a Busa.

Concours competitor basically.

And I keep seeing it as their shot at building a goldwing fighter. Yep its more sporty, but it has a huge amount of storage, is super comfortable to ride, has all the same accessories, similarly priced, and seems to be going after the same market.

I don't think it appeals to the same crowd. The wing dingers are a different bunch. It's definitely a really nice sport tourer though.

The R1200RT is BMW's Concourse class competition.

The wing is a little different than anything else out there. The wing competes between the sport touring class and the bagger cruisers. I don't believe it's a true sport tourer. It's seating is much more like a bagger, the k16 is definitely a sport tourer there.

The R1200RT is BMW's Concourse class competition.

The R motor I don't think is as sporty as the K16 and concours.

In the training files, they do direct compares on all of them. But, their focus this past year was the wing. I mean , we went to Americade for heavens sake. I can't tell you how many wives told me they wouldn't let their husbands buy it, even though their husbands loved it, just because it doesn't have arm rests. /facepalm

The wing dingers are a weird crowd. Learned that from the honda hoot that use to come to knoxville every year. It was mostly wingers. BMW may want to use it as a competitor, but it's too sport oriented for a lot of the wing dingers. Wings are basically high performance baggers, while the BMW is almost a sport bike with big luggage.

The BMW will get some of the Wingers that want more performance though. The core wingers are like harley riders though, loyal bunch of folks.

Hard core wingers retire to can-am.

There are those guys that will come to a show just to argue. All of us working have told wingers... "I'm sure Honda is happy to have you."

We loved the wingers in Knoxville. They spent money and didn't mess shit up aka not like bike week in Myrtle Beach. Still don't know why Knoxville stopped doing the Honda Hoot.

Apparently Honda stopped it, money ran out.

I agree. Americade might make us want to slap people. But, if the worst part of it is dealing with old guys that make their bikes look like ferris wheels. Then sign me up! There are much worse annual events out there. Let's take Sturgis for example

These bikes have the coolest sound to them... it's like a Jetsons mobile hum rather than a typical exhaust.

This is from the demo at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. We did a walk around during our morning tech of the bikes. This is all of them fired up. I just wish someone would have turned off the radio on the one so we had the sound of just the bikes...

I guess I would say that its handling abilities are pretty much on par with any late 90s early 2000s sport bike.

That's pretty accurate. It's not a new 600 or liter bike, but it's got some speed and handling.
