He was fine when I got home and walked/run just fine. Then a couple hours ago he was laying on his side and went to get up and yelped. From then on he's been walking slow and I can't tell if he's hunching his back some or not. I REALLY hope it's not back problems.
He's eating just fine right now. Just walking slow with a slight limp. I hope the vet has an open slot tomorrow.
I touched/rubbed all around his back and all his legs. He never gave me a sign of pain.

My co workers dog just pulled it's back. But you can't give a dog pain meds cause then it will over exert its injury thinking like it feels better. The pain forces them slow down.

Benedryl helps with that too...

My vet has told us to give Manny advil before. In fact, we have doggy pain meds we keep on hand because Manfred plays HARD (as you know). He's pulled muscles playing frisbee before.

Max caught his paw and lower leg in between ground clutter before while turning and burning....running around a field not far from my house...strained his "elbow" joint on his right front leg. He HOWLED and cried....it was hard to watch...vet checked him out...no structural damage, thankfully. He gimped around for awhile and then was good as new.
It SUCKS to see your friend hurting. I hope he/she heals up well too.

He seems better today. Had a rough night with him wanting to sleep on his side but hurt him to do so so he had to be on his stomach all night and he couldnt get comfortable. Woke up a lot hetter and moved about just fine. He ate and took a dump.
I hope its just an upset stomach. But he does have a slighty long back. His back legs look a tad stiff while moving.

Back from the vet. I had them tak an xray of his back and all the disc are equally spaced except one spot but were not sure if thats the problem. They gave himtwo prescriptions. One is a pain pill and the other is a artritis/pain chewable.
He said to keep him lazy for a week and see what happens.
He was fine when I took him, but after the xray he was back to walking slow/limping. The tech said they had to move him about so that probablyis his back.

Oh I have gotten them before too but just for surgery or stitches.

My vet has told us to give Manny advil before. My vet has told us that Ibuprofen is not safe for dogs. One of my dogs has pretty bad hip displasia and the resulting arthritis. The NSAIDs we give him are from the vet and specifically for dogs.
from http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/guide/dog-pain-medications?page=2
Naproxen and ibuprofen (Motrin) are powerful analgesics, but both have a high incidence of gastrointestinal side effects. This makes them unsuitable for long-term administration. Ibuprofen, in particular, is not recommended for dogs.
from http://www.petside.com/article/can-dogs-take-ibuprofen-pain
Q: My dog has a lot of pain in the hip area. Prescribed meds help, but are so expensive. Can dogs take Ibuprofen? Can I give her the ibuprofen that I take to help her deal with her pain?
A: Can dogs take Ibuprofen? To be honest, it's not advisable.
Popular brand name drugs that contain Ibuprofen are Advil and Motrin. Ibuprofen is NOT considered safe for dogs and can in some instances be quite toxic to their kidneys, liver and gastrointestinal tract. The medications prescribed by your vet have been proven to be safe for long term use in dogs. Perhaps your veterinarian can find you an alternative medication that is both cheaper and safe for your dog.

Dogs forget real fast about their injuries when they go to the vet. Mine strained a tendon jumping off the bed. She limped around for a whole night before I took her in the next morning. The minute she hit that vet office.... halleluja she could walk again!!!!
I kept imagining the Family Guy skit with the race horse that has a broken ankle and the farmer asks how its doing. "See I can do it"

Maybe I'm thinking of aspirin. I know he told us he could take something. Like I said we have prescribed pain meds for him though that we keep on deck.

Tramadol and Metacam are the most common pain relievers for animals.

This.
When our Great Pyrenees had knee surgery, askmrsjesus scored some Tramadol from an online Canadian pharmacy. The scrip is actually in her name, not the dog's.
You just fill out a form online, tell them you have back pain, or something (you do have back pain, right?) and voila, you can get a bottle of the stuff for cheap. I think we paid 60 bucks for 180 tabs @50mg. each. The vet wanted more than triple that.
Check with your vet for dosage, At the start, we were giving her one every four hours, (she's 80 pounds). After she healed a bit, we reduced it to two a day. She was confined to a small pen, to keep her from running around, for three months. The Tramadol worked great, and basically kept her stoned all day. She would have gone nuts without it, as she's a very active dog.
Tramadol is approved for humans (at least in Canada...) and two with a beer works good on my knees, after a hard day's dual sporting in the woods.

I work in veterinary warehouse, ship out boatloads of the stuff everyday. Glad to hear the dog is on the mend.
And yes, as AMJ says, the stuff is God awful expensive. :hangman:

Lets see.
Tramadol (qty 14) = $13.87 -- Two a day
Rimadyl (qty 7) = $17.16 -- Two "halves" a day = 1 pill a day
So I can order this shit off a website with out a prescription?

Canada is much more lenient with drugs than the US, so I doubt if you can get them here w/o going to a vet. Ask AMJ about more details from our druggie neighbors up north. :)
Also, they manufacturer most of the stuff, too, so maybe that is why it is cheaper.

Yes. Make sure you order the 50mg version of the Tramadol. Any more than that will be too much for a dog. I didn't check on Rimadyl, do some research.
This is just one of many sites you can use:

Shop around. Just google "tramadol online canada pharmacy", there are tons of them. She can't remember which one she used, just try to pick one that looks legit(ish).
Legal disclaimer: Is this legal? I don't know, and I don't care.

Every country needs to be good at something.
We do bombs and fast food, Canada does drugs and hockey.

Unless its changed in the years since I worked at the vet, you can give dogs enteric (non coated) baby aspirin, dosage based on size, or child type doses. Good for mild pain, arthritis pain, etc. You can also give them pepto for tummy problems.
