Marketplace Events (http://www.marketplaceevents.com/Main/Home.aspx) announced last week that it intends to launch the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIME) in the fall of 2013. The purpose is to serve as the catalyst to bring together the entire two-wheel industry in a single arena that creates a grand stage for motorcycling in the U.S. and North America, while delivering an efficient and energetic market-timed expo platform for B2B and B2C in the motorcycle industry. Advanstar, the company behind the multi-city Progressive International Motorcycle Shows (http://www.motorcycleshows.com/), is going to have very serious competition. Marketplace Events operates from 12 offices, with a 100-person staff, and produces some of the most successful and longest-running home shows in the U.S. and Canada.

For its foray into the motorcycle industry with consumer and trade shows, Maketplace Events hired Cycle World Vice President and Publisher Larry Little as its Vice President & General Manager of the Motorcycle Group. Little’s experience is with Advanstar IMS and as Chairman of the Motorcycle Industry Council (http://www.mic.org/). AIME Fall 2013 trade and consumer show for the motorcycle industry is timed to align with the annual reveal of new motorcycles, aftermarket products, safety equipment, and accessories to the press, motorcycle dealers, and consumers.

Thank God because IMS blows

Technically, its Advanstar that blows. They "organize" the IMS shows.

The IMS shows used to be halfway decent, but Advanstar jacked the prices for booth space up so high, that all the little guys with cool new stuff you never heard of, couldn't afford to go anymore.

On top of that, the fucking schedule was so screwed up, that the vendors were cris-crossing the country like crazy. This year, it's San Mateo, Dallas, Long Beach, Michigan, DC, NY, Cleveland (why even bother, what a shit hole), Minneapolis, Chicago, Charlotte and Daytona. Connect the dots assholes. Last time I did the circuit, I drove 13 thousand miles, and the idiots couldn't figure out why I didn't want to do it anymore.

I wish AIME luck.

Crazy, expensive, awesome, productive... the usual

This change has been coming. Talk about getting expensive - you KNOW it's expensive when BMW and Ducati stop going because of the price.

Because they have show trucks available... the rest of the year the show trucks are around the country giving demo rides and working at races.

Still stupid. Their ticket sales would be double if done during riding season.

They might sell more tickets, but people would want their money back if the factory boys (and girls) weren't there.

Well that is a true point... One in each season would be ideal.
