How long are you going to take to do it? I'm planning an Iron Butt 50cc for April on the BMW. Jacksonville, Florida to San Diego, California in 50 hours or less.

BMW prep has begun. :D

Trip, I rode the Cabot Trail in 2006. I HIGHLY recommend it. Beautiful area! I'll try to post a few pictures from that trip in a day or two when I'm not working like a madman.

The Cabot Trail still ranks as #1 for places I've seen in North America. It is stunning to say the least.

I did the Cabot Trail for the first time last June. Then again in September. We will be doing it at least once this summer. Twice if I dont end up on the Track.

I cant believe it took me this long to go there.

A few guys I ride with are planning another trip to NC too. I'd love to go but I dont think I'll have the time for it.

I think the XB has a better seat than the 1125, but the RC was/is a torture rack too from all Ihave heard.

We are apparently spoiled with capable machines. Plus we are getting older and cant put up with back shit. Drewpy will get to this point lol.

Are you *riding* to Prudhoe Bay? If so, you had better plan on taking a dual sport, or don't waste your time. If you are *serious* about riding to Prudhoe Bay, we need to talk.

I did 250-300 with gas man one day on the DRZ, it was a fucking nightmare. Worse than the long ass day to indy we did on the 600s, LOL. I am too use to my comfy ass russell day long now, it is so very very nice.

It's 5500 miles. If you did a BBG every day, it would take you over 3.5 days (84 hours), more like 87/88 hours. There is no way the IBA would certify that ride in under 84 hours.

That is a retarded goal.

86 and change was the record set in 2009.

yeah mine was on slab too... so very little moving around... hence my reason for resting my legs on my tank LOL...

it actually hurt to sit for the first couple days of the rally... didn't help that we rode those days too... LOL

Yes, they have, and still do.

However, I'm here to tell you, the ONLY way that is doable is if there is PERFECT weather for a 30 hour time span, AND the road is in great condition.

There was one spot, approximately 20 miles long where they were working on the road, and the dirt was so loose and rocky that if I would have had my Hayabusa with me, or anything short of the KLR, I would not have attempted it.

While it *can* be done, I'm not going to be the guy to recommend it. I'd hate to see someone get up there, within 300 miles of Prudhoe, and have to turn around because of road conditions. That's why I took the KLR. I was *not* going to turn around.

ETA, I did 500 miles per day for 3 weeks on the KLR. That sucked. Don't recommend that kind of daily mileage on a single cylinder. LOL

what shmike said, a normal rider going that far should keep it to BB status, so about 5.5 days. Trying to go for BBG+ status on a tank like the Buell he has is just retarded, you couldn't sleep at all for 84 hours and would need absolute perfect weather the entire trip.

It's funny that this thread came up.

I just read through an old thread elsewhere that detailed John Ryan's record run.

He did it on an FJR...

...it took him about 6 different attempts to actually get the trip underway (Leaving from Prudhoe). Flat tires, punctured oil pans, bad weather etc. kept forcing him to turn back.

It can be done on a larger bike but only if you have a healthy support network in AK.

Plus, don't forget you won't make regular time on the Haul Road between Prudhoe Bay and Fairbanks.

It is 510 miles. Normally, that is 7 hours on pavement. It will take you 13 hours on the Haul Road, if you are *lucky*.
