John Goodman sued in drunk driving crash

HOUSTON - A Houston millionaire facing a civil suit over a fatal drunk driving crash has adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend.

John Goodman faces criminal charges in Florida for a drunk driving crash in 2010. Patrick Wilson, 23, was killed in the crash.

Wilson's parents filed a $100 million civil lawsuit against Goodman for damages.

"In order to avoid some of the financial risks, in October he adopted his 42 year-old girlfriend and he's 47 and that's just a little strange," said Shelby Hodges, Editor at Large of Culturemap.

The adoption gives Heather Hutchins, who is now legally considered Goodman's daughter, access to his other two children's trust fund, which allows her to withdraw money from it immediately.

Both Goodman's criminal and civil trials are expected to begin in March.

I think its written that you can move your personal assets even after a civil suit has been filed. Typically, you would have something set up beforehand if that situation ever came about, shitty thing to do. They had a couple of lawyers on the radio talking about this.

And I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
