"Flying saucer" developed in Canada for the US, during the 50's.
Thrust was directed out along the rim.
Can't see how it could hope to remain stable at high speed.

It couldn't remain stable, this is the reason it was never used in any future designs.

Just think what would happen if a crack developed next to the pilot. He'd literaly would be melted to the seat.
