Inspired by Tye and Troy's discussion...

It doesn't matter what type of racing (or event if not racing), what is your number and why?

Mine is 519. It's my wife's birthday (May 19th).

Before we were married, putting her birthday on my bike was my way of saying: "I'm sorry I can't buy you a ring right now, but check out my beautiful new bike!" :lol:

I have to ask, what's with #301?

#512 is my area code and I've never seen it on any pro, national amateur, arenacross, or even local amateur so I figured it was fitting being born/raised in the area.(and currently still) Only until recently frequenting the TT forums, I found some dude in Croatia? Serbia? or whocares-istan ALSO has the #512 and ironically enough on a blue yamaha!

That's the number I was assigned back in 2001 when I signed up for NESBA and started doing track days. And I used it for STT, ProMotion, & motorcycleXcitement track days too

I run 91 on my BMW themed fiddy, cause that is what Leon Haslam runs and I was keeping to the theme.

Ran 13 and 14 a bit, which are high school sports numbers from my varisty days.

Which was a tribute to "Old Blue (http://www.troybaker.com/55/traderpic.jpg)" that I had just finished which was a 1962 stepside.

But one saturday Brian and I went to eat at hooters and these dudes on sportbikes were there eating when we got there. They acknowledged us as they left, then one came back in.....asked "Who's number 62?" I said "I am" and he asked "Is that your WERA number? CCS? NESBA?"
I said "Umm...no, just a number"

And it was kinda like you could see the excitement turn to "stupid poser"

I went home and pulled the 62 off that night :lol

The only ones selected were my baseball number and date of my wedding (the 5 year anni just worked out, but 11/11 was selected).

So 2 of 7 things were selected. I guess you think "most" of your members on your shitty board are still active, too. :lol

I was born at 11:11am, 11 was my basketball (random) and baseball (selected) number throughout school, and I got my first big (non-50cc) dirt bike for my 11th birthday (which sported the #11, of course).

Not coincidentally the wife and I married 11/11 and 11/11/11 was our 5 year anniversarry. And our little was was born in 2011.

That it is in fact creepy.

On another note, I had given thought about changing my number to the last 3 digits of my AMA Competitors card, however it's less fancy of a number and it is shared with a current Pro whom I'm not a fan of.(I dont dislike him either, I just don't want to share a number with a pro)

You selected your wedding, your baseball number, and your motorcycle number. That's 3, so far.

You do run someone elses number. I think you may know the guy, Ben Spies ring a bell? I change my number every time I get bored, one of the perks of having a vinyl cutter.

We had a good time.

Someone is a little mad they got called out on their lame number association. Hell you can pretty much take any number and find "important" associations with them. I am more surprised you didn't come up with more for 11.

No it's not the same, because it's worse. Mine was done just for artistic fun on a tiny funny bike that I use to promote my work. I change it regularly when I damage the vinyl. You take yours as serious emotional attachment. :lol:

So which org recognizes you as holding the 11? Mine is just for display on a non streetbike that doesn't get tracked.

17 has always been my lucky number. I booked a flight to Florida this January in seat 17a and ended up sharing the whole ride with my high school crush in 17b.

Lets just say that that affirmed my trust in lucky number 17.... :lol:

Was my original PeeWee footbal number, and I thought it looked good, so I kept it from then on for everything. Once my kid started racing, he kept the number, for his own reasons.

STT, Team ProMotion, Cornerspeed, NESBA, MotorcycleXcitement, and BostonMoto. Appearance works great but when you have 30+ bikes on the track there's a good chance at least a couple will look similar.

Even a shitty board needs attention. It just sucks when I'm the one that's gotta do it. :lol

I didn't say "assigned". They record your number if you run one, so it's "recognized" by them. Nice try though.

STT does nothing with numbers, the only thing they care about is the sticker they give you to identify your group and the inspection sticker. The only thing they say about numbers is it makes it easier to see your bike on a quick scan of thumbnails when looking at pics.

My mistake, they "recognize" that I run #11.

And the one time I rode with STT they recorded my number, I never cared to ask them how meaningful it was to them. If memory serves, most bikes on the track had a number on them.

Most of my days are with NESBA and they require a number, so I run the same with the others by default.

They realized there was going to be more than 1000 riders in NESBA. I think the only ones they don't allow you to use now are single digit numbers. You can pretty much use whatever you want 10-999.

Yeah, I chose 11 with NESBA. They started the restriction on 2-digit numbers a year or two later to reduce repeated numbers on the track.

The last CR position I knew NESBA had open went to John, don't know if they'll make any additions this year. If they asked me, I would definitely consider it, but with house purchase next month and the new little one running around I don't know how many days I'll squeeze in this year.

BTW...Jim didn't realize the deal with tires and would run something he could get cheap...and no one told him for like 7 track days. When he found out, he was SOOO pissed :lol:

True, but so few of the CR's get in many A group sessions... and I know when I'm at the track I want to get as many in as possible. Pros and cons...

I remember that about Jim, rolling around out there all day on shagged tires. :lol

Yup, a friend of mine decided that he wouldn't root for a local racer, who was a dick to him at a track day. My friend was an amateur racer, at the time, and was pulling some fast but legal passes, by the trackday's rules, but the control rider/racer almost punted him off the track to 'teach him a lesson', or something.

The one I saw the CR couldnt keep up without riding above his head. So he rode above his head and took the dude out when he tried to pass him.

This was a top 10 National series rider. Fast like cheetah; smart like streetcar. He's always been a nice guy to me. In this case my buddy was exiting a corner behind him and the CR kept looking over his shoulder, then pulling little wheelies that pushed him towards the outside.... and my buddy. And the wall.

They are just normal riders like us, usually they are or become friends with the providers by doing a lot of days with them.

The beginner ones are usually pretty good, because all they do is teach the entire day and not after trying to make laps or be douchers. The intermediate and above are usually just dudes wanting free track time.

Oh, I realize that. I just find it humorous that the CR's chuck it through the corners pretty regularly. Might be because they act so douchey, compared to the rest of the guys working for track time.
