I am going to be swapping out some brake lines to SS lines. Galfer or Spiegler?

I was thinking of going a little squidish and getting red ones to add a little life to the all black and silver scheme.

drain fluid, remove, replace, re-bleed, check for leaks, go ride, check for leaks, done deal. simple

I put Russell SS brake lines on my GS back in 1982. Back then I switched to silicone fluid, DOT 5, which was the best available. The lines still work great, and I've changed the fluid occasionally. Still use silicone and now it's purple-colored.

My buddy has Spiegler lines. They are fine. Front and back shouldn't take more than a couple hours.

thanks all. I think Galfer is what cyclegear carries so probably go with that. Might have to wait a couple weeks since I'll be gone next weekend and can't loose the bike for a day

I have Galfers.

Be forewarned, those european bastards don't give you any instructions, so you need to figure out how the lines go. I.e. the banjos are all at different angles so you need to figure out the combination of angles/orientations that works.

They made a huge difference in braking for me though.

Invest in some speedbleeders as well... they are awesome.

What do you think of Kevlar brake lines? Should I upgrade to stainless steel at some point?

They expand a little more than SS...although at street speeds you'll never notice the difference.

so when completely draining the brakes and putting on new lines. How many bottle of brake fluid I'm gonna need?

And should I be using Dot 4 or 5 with SS lines?

1 bottle should work...unless your lines are 100 feet long like Gas Man's. I use Bel-Ray Super DOT 4. Just make sure they are bled well.

Who says it didn't?

I still get it done with one bottle, but an extra bottle is a good idea, to aid in bleeding the brakes.

a couple hours? any longer than 1 hour and you should probably have never started the project yourself. now the bleeding on the other hand lol, that may take a little without a speedbleeder.

ordered the Spielgers, they just came in the mail tonight. I went with the red lines to add some look to the bike. Didn't even think about the solid coating for the colored lines so they don't have the braided look, but it is more about the performance.
