When I lived in Thailand and Malaysia, it was common to find a large bowl of water (instead of TP), next to the hole in the floor that served as a toilet.
I'll let you figure out the details.

Yeah, seems it's part of Muslim law to use your hand. Fucking GROSS. In European history (the only one that matters) cloths, leaves and rocks were used.
I think in the above situations though you're supposed to splash the water on yourself rather than wipe / wash.
