I'm beginning to get..er...for lack of a better word, bored with my Corvette. I'm slowly losing interest in it.

She's fast and pretty, yes. She's also noisy, rattly, and a bitch to get in and out of.

I'm contemplating what my next 4 wheeled play toy will be. I'm mostly considering Mercedes, BMW, Porsche...that ilk of car basically.

Who has what, and would or would *not* recommend a particular brand/model?

I'm all ears.

Out of those I would say BMW (really you cant go wrong with the high end cars). If you really want a cool distinct sport car with gobs for power and more than enough fun look up the M coupe, either z3 or z4 version. I am a fan of the z3 version, but have heard good things about the z4 version as well

If you are talking used, I wouldn't recommend a German car, even if you do the work yourself. Parts prices are ridiculous, and the engineering is over-complicated. Buy the car new, or under a certified pre-owned program. And then dump it before the warranty ends.

Yep. If you want a sporty luxury car, the 550i can be found for good prices used. Definitely a luxury ride, and will push you back in the seat when you get on the right pedal. Find one with the M sport package and you can get very close to M5 performance and looks, sans M5 sticker shock.

My boss just bought a 07 911. The problem is, I don't know if it will be any easier to get out of then a Corvette would be.

As far as don't buy this and don't buy that, I live by the buy what you love. They are all expensive. If you love a vehicle the cost doesn't hurt as much.

What are you looking for? 2 door? 4 door? Price? Year range?

The only cars close to the performance of my Grand Sport cost $120K or more unless your talking about a GT-R. Fugly and fukkin fast.

If you want to look pretty and be limited to 155mph- cant beat a Merc SLS. AMG of course.

This.

Also what do you want to be different about the car compared to your Vette? Sportier, more luxurious, more seats, more cache?

Without knowing any of that the options could run from Ariel Atom/Caterham 7, to Jag XKR/Merc SL, to E55/Jag XJR.

For the price of that, I'd want something that actually looks like a sportscar

Audi is way too conservative IMO. And their Kenworth-like grills are getting old.

Lotus Evora or Porsche Cayman all the way.

You have chosen 2 of the gayest cars out there. One powered by a Toyota and one that is a poor mans 911.

If you've ever driven a Lotus, you know how much it sucks driving around town. Great on the track, but a real PITA as a regular driver.

Most on here ride motorcycles and G-Rex rides a hell of a lot more than most. That indicates less risk sensitivity than average to me. The average modern sportbike has similar performance to an Atom, only with even less protection. If I had that kind of money to spend on impractical toys I would have a supercharged Atom and a Caterham 7 Superlight R500 parked next to it.

Leg room. My boss had a Boxster and likes the Cayman but his is a drop top fan so he went with the 911. And he likes that the 911 is Porsches top dog. He admits that the Cayman S is about as fast as a base 911.

2012 Cayman S $62K, 320hp

2012 base 911 $81K, 350hp

So for $19K, you get 30 more horsepower (and more weight, which negates the extra power). In essence all you're getting with the 911 is a little more room, and the priviledge of not getting called "gay" by people who think that small cars are gay for some reason.

Actually everyone that buys them, does get to benefit from their intended design purpose. Every factory built consumer car and bike is designed for one specific purpose, to sell... That's it. That's the simple philosphy behind every car developed.

99% of the population can't use any vehicle ever made to it's potential operating characteristics.

He missed out on doing a performance school with it. He should do it to find out what he can do with the car and just enjoy it in a "safer" environment.

It's the same people, old pedantic douchebags. You forget, I get to meet every club by going to the gap a lot.

Like that miatta guy we met on the blue ridge last year

Of course Miata drivers are the worst, they develop that attitude because everyone insists on calling them gay just because they drive a small car with limited power........(even though it is more fun to drive than any POS muscle car)

I'd rather have 200 Porsche guys at the track than 5 BMW guys. Beemer guys suck. Especially the guys part of the club. It was embarrassing.
.

There's something about buying a "sedan" that is "supposed" to keep up with a corvette (M3) that gives a dousche the biggest chip imaginable to place on their shoulder.

If the corvette was the benchmark....WTF didn't you JUST BUY A CORVETTE?

And honestly, I couldn't agree more with Moira.

Sit in an M3 than Sit in a Vette. :lol

Though the C5 and C6's have stepped up there interior game and is by no means cheap...The inside of an M3 is definitely nicer.

With that being said, Give me a 335i Chipped and a full exhaust and I'l gladly keep up with a "Stock" vette.

I am not so sure about that, but the 335 does packs a lot of punch

It would keep up. Really depends on how much of a tune you could get out of the 335...But it should put you on par with a Stock M3, Damn close anyway.

If i had my choice though I'd go with an Audi S4 if we're talking Performance Sedans. Less power...I just like Audi's Styling more. And with some work it can get close to 400 ponies quick.

I'll be at VIR in July. My Vette is pretty much stock (headers). I'll buy you dinner if I don't beat your best time by 2 seconds.

I've driven both. I too would prefer the M3 as an all around car. But it I were looking for a track molester.....I have to admit I'd buy a corvette. Mainly because for the money, I could spend less overall and have more of a car.

But what I can't wrap my head around is why so many "cock's" (as Clarkson would say) continue to make the corvette the benchmark to TRY and beat?!?!

But then again....I don't understand why you'd dump an additional $10k into a civic just to try and beat mustangs/camaro/challengers either.

What weekend? VIR club day? What org? I'd love to be out there watching you pass me! Next big question would be will the wife LET me take her pinto GL convertible to VIR to play?!?!?!

hell no to the south course, or me trying on my track bike.

I am one of the few odd ones that likes south better than north, but I also like jefferson at summit point so go figure

I know someone with an M3, and he is all into the whole xenon lights / hi-end audio / rimz / lowering kit .......He mostly "flosses" it (creeps around at starbucks/jamba juice, hangs his arm out the window everywhere he goes)

Asked him if he's ever taken it to a track day, and he goes "dude these tires are expensive"

I hope you kicked him in the nuts for that, or just for general principle.

Problem with Miata guys at track events is they get so ingrained into their head to never, EVER lift that they don't do it even when they really should be on the binders. I got hit by a Miata in a race last month and he basically destroyed the whole right side of my car. He was full throttle and airborne when he hit me, never lifted.
