Anyone as hungover as I am? Shit, two bottles of tequila, a bunch of beer, and I can't remember most of the night... My night began early... with the ONSSP coming back home with my favorite tequila:

You guys would never survive in Florida, Chicago, or any big party city for that matter. Why "take a stand" against a reason to drink with friends and strangers?

Gee, I wonder what it would be like to live in a party city. It's too bad I am from New Orleans and have no idea what a party is like. That Mardi Gras thing is just a sham.

Not taking a stand. I wouldn't expect Mexicans that don't live in the USA to celebrate fourth of July either. Cinco de Mayo is not a holiday to me. If you want to be an alcoholic, you don't really need an excuse like a foreign holiday to drink, just be a drunk.

If you are catholic, St Patricks has meaning; if you aren't, you are just an alkie. Same with Mardi Gras. It's a catholic holiday too. Catholics got a bunch of good drunken holidays. LOL

How old were you when you left New Orleans? Do you shun St. Patty's day, too? Chicago is out of control for that holiday, always a good time.

NYC is a zoo as well, esp with all the drunken cops and firemen wandering around.

I still go back all the time, all of my extended family lives there. Hell, I am going to try and get a ride in Baccahus with my Uncle next year. It's one of the biggest parades of Carnival. Prior to moving out of my parents house, I hardly missed a Mardi Gras and almost always spent Christmas break down there partying. Having In-laws now sucks, cause I can't get down there as much. Weddings are kick ass down there too, not the lame pieces of shit they are up here.

I was raised Catholic, we use to do St. Patty's in Louisiana, but I don't really do it anymore. I am not a bar hopper anymore, so drinking to get drunk for no reason is not my idea of fun anymore. Yes, I have gotten old manish. If I lived in Chicago, I would probably check out the festivities because it's their gig similar to New Orleans and Mardi Gras. It would be fun to go to Chicago to see it for sure, to do it in Chattanooga would be lame to me. If I were to go to Mexico around Cinco de Mayo, I would definitely check out the partying and again, doing it in Chattanooga is lame.

Mardi Gras is the same way as St. Patty's too. It's a Catholic holiday turned secular by the city. Since I don't live in Chicago though, it's not something I really care about and I don't go out of my way to wear green and shit.

If finding random reasons to drink is fun for you, go for it. For some of us, it's just not that fun anymore.

Mardi Gras is the feast day before they have to be all serious and respectful during lent. St. Patricks is the same way, it's another catholic feast. Catholics love their feasting.

Yeah, it's like some battle victory day, but you know what, I said July 4th which is our independence day. We don't really have a comparable holiday that is as big. V-E/V-J day doesn't really mattter, maybe Memorial Day. We celebrate July 4th more patriotic and joyful. Memorial day is supposed to be more somber.

Awesome fail on trying to be a smartass.

the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862

Well no wonder it never held any meaning to the culture I grew up in, it's over the freakin French. Coming from a French heritage area with french ancestory with a low Mexican population, no wonder it was never really even discussed, LOL. That makes the day even more pathetic. YEY, we beat the French! Congrats, you are in a long line of winners over the French. LOL

Wow, didn't know this, Mexicans don't really even celebrate it.

Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday limited primarily to the state of Puebla. There is some limited recognition of the holiday in other parts of the country

I googled it to find out what battle, not that it wasn't independence day. Someone corrected me on that awhile ago. Didn't remember who they fought.

Some historians have argued that France's real goal was to help break up the American Union, at the time in the midst of a civil war, by helping the southern Confederacy:[26] "The Mexicans had won a great victory that kept Napoleon III from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the United States to build a powerful army. This grand army smashed the Confederates at Vicksburg and Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War." The consequence of Cinco de Mayo to the United States has been thus recognized: "The defeat of the French army had consequences for America as well...the French defeat denied Napoleon III the opportunity to resupply the Confederate rebels for another year."

Interesting, another reason why it doesn't get as much attention in the South.

Its not taking a stand against anything. I just dont drink anymore except for extremely rare exceptions. I can drink with my friends and complete strangers 365 days of the year. No need to celebrate a fake holiday.

I am not a bar hopper anymore, so drinking to get drunk for no reason is not my idea of fun anymore.
