.
eh....it depends
Democrats split into 2 groups....
Timid, treehugger, non-partying types......Volunteer at the shelter every week.......Never cuss....Sometimes teach Sunday School.......Those people drive slow as molasses.......Often rusted 1970's Volvos if they're poor, or a mid 90's Corolla/Camry if they're middle-class. They eschew material possessions, so if they ever buy a new car, it has to be something "non-showy" like a Honda Fit or Element. A few of them buy a New Beetle because they like its happy-go-lucky, non-aggressive image.
The other group of Democrats is the "progressive/trendy/I would never vote Republican because I'm too cool for that"..........Those people do buy alot of material goods (ipads, chrome rims, etc), and do drive fast.........They tend to drive Acuras, Infinitis, Audis, Mazdas, and VWs. They attended the 99% marches because they thought it was cool to "rebel" against the same system that supplies them with all those cool gadgets.
Likewise, Republicans split into 2 groups as well.....
Guys who are into Republicans for the "macho" reasons......."I can't associate myself with a ghey/unpatriotic party like the Democrats"..........Those people usually drive fast. Their cars of choice are Camaros, Mustangs, pickups........and motorcycles. They are also usually into guns and martial arts.
Then you have people who are Republican only for its fiscally conservative philosophy. A lot of them are up there in age, so they tend to drive a little bit slow.... but still way faster than the first group of Democrats I mentioned. These people drive a very wide mixture of vehicles, as their personality has not been polarized by any misguided social viewpoints like the other 3 groups have.

I hit a puddle at about 55mph and it was a downhill slope.
Cops tagged me at terminal velocity.

I call bullshit. You missed a whole section of the first group who desperately crave material possessions for the self actualizing message those possessions are supposed to say about the buyer. This group also has a ton of iShit, but where vehicles are concerned they buy hybrids, plug in hybrids, or electrics exclusively. See the thread about the electric scooter for an example.

Nah, self-actualization/grandization = the second group. They care what others think of them, including their supposed concern for the environment. They represent most Prius owners. Someone could give them a good argument that the Prius isn't actually good for the environment, and they'd still buy it, just to "belong" to the green movement.
In contrast, the first group doesn't care whether other people are aware of their good deeds, or about belonging to some trend.
Also, the second group always makes sure they're stylish and trendy with their clothes and hair. In contrast, the first group buys most of their clothes at Goodwill. If they ever buy new clothes, it's from a fuddy-duddy, ultra-conservative brand like Lands End.

It's fun to put people in little rows and columns, but I do have to wonder if an Excell based perception of humanity can be relied upon.
Some people just don't like to color inside the lines.

Makes sense, the car brands listed under that group threw me though. None of them really fit the "I'm an angel to Mother Earth so I can be a shitbag to everyone else" attitude.
These busts just make it clear that radar equipment is hopelessly inaccurate and the speeding racket is just a scheme for revenue.
"But but but...if you're not doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to worry about!!"

Put it this way.....both groups are just as likely to buy Priuses.....but the first one does it because they genuinely believe it helps.....The second does it because it's hip/trendy/ and lets them show off their good intentions. But the second group also buys a lot of showy sports sedans like Acuras, Audis etc.......
No matter Democrat or Republican, only a small portion of people are willing to settle for a greenie car. The rest give in to their baser desires for luxury/size/speed/style, or are smart enough to realize that buying a used late-model car would be better for the environment than buying a new Prius.
