View Full Version : Costs of a typical track day

Mr Lefty

Just wondering what you guys normally spend per track day... what are the hidden costs beyond the price of registration?... like gas for the bike, gas for the tow rig, tires, ect...

So... what do you guys end up spending when all is said and done... and where.

also what trackday companies do you guys go through for the track days?

Trip

tires can run anywhere from cheap to pricey, depending on if you get takeoffs, new DOTS, etc...

Some orgs do gate admission is usually around $5 per day per person just to enter the track

Hotel, although camping or sleeping in your car can save money if the track allows it

Some tracks make you pay for power if you need 120v

Cost of prepping your bike, tape up lights, tape down wheel weights, oil change, coolant to water wetter or similar, plastics if you choose that route, some make you safety wire

gas to however far the track is

gas for the bike, usually a full bike and a 5 gallon can get you through

tie downs maybe a trailer if you dont have a truck

For this area, I would use
sportbiketracktime.com or elitesportbikes.com

I wouldn't use NESBA as a noob, the riders there tend to be more advanced and they don't do as good of a noob introduction to the track as STT.

Mr Lefty

do they allow generators?

and how much did your track day cost for Nashville?

yeah, nashville actually has free 120v cause you setup in the nascar garages

$125 a day I think, plus the membership fee for STT if you never joined STT before which is like $35 a year.

Barber is like 250 a day and tally is like 125 a day

Mr Lefty

ok... so probably close to $500 with gas and tires... and possibly a hotel. cool...

That's why I invested in a second set of wheels, unless it's blistering hot like nashville was this past time and eating tires, I can use the same tires for quite a few track days.

Phenix_Rider

A complete breakdown? :panic:

Most of the gear I use all the time, but here it is anyway (without looking up receipts).

Shoei RF-1000 $400
A* Stunt 2 $320
A* Track pants $190
JR GPX boots $50
Cortech Adrenaline gloves $80
Velocity Gear back protector (CE level 2) $75

Front and Rear Stands- $150

Hotbodies track plastics $490 including shipping and dzus fasteners
Spare wheel assemblies (wheels, rotors, sprocket) $500
DOT takeoffs $0

NESBA member fee $75
Beaverun trackday $165

Tank of fuel $12
5 gallon extra fuel $18
Fuel in truck to travel 120 miles each way $72

HAAHAHHAHAAHAHAHA- $2598 TOTAL :panic::whistle:
minus the gear and stands- $1333
remove the wheels- $833
minus fuel- $731

It's fucking insane. But most of the stuff I'll use anyway (on the street/everyday) like fuel and gear and stands and I can even put street tires on the spare wheels. I suppose the only track specific cost is the membership fee, trackday fee, and track plastics for a total of $730. The plastics should be a one time deal. So any time in the next year it'll just cost the trackday fee of $165-190.

i usually spend about 300 at the dragstrip, unless its outta state.
on the occasions where i win or runner up, i break even, maybe come out alil ahead, like $20

cant break even at a trackday, but its nice to see it wont cost me anymore than going to the dragstrip and losing in the 1st round...just gotta pick a track now

Assuming you got all the essentials. (like TIRES, canopy, chairs, TIRES, cooler, and everything else you need while at the pits) Some people need more shit then others, like stands, tire warmers, trailers, campers, pit bikes....the list goes on and on and on...

It varies from track to track since different tracks have different fees. Sometimes if I'm doing just one day and the track is only 1-2 hours away, I'll drive up the same morning. That way I get to sleep in my own bed and save about $50.

Single day track days I spend anywhere from 275-325. (depending on if I leave in the morning or the previous night)

Shithole hotel: $50
Fuel for my V8 Tundra / trackbike and Fuel Can: $100
Trackday entry: $150
Snacks / Lunch / Water /Ice: $25

If I go to Nevada to ride Pahrump I usually ride 2 days since it's so far. I end up spending around:

Hotel (2 nights): $110
Fuel: $150
Trackday entry (2 days): (approx) $300
Snacks/water/food for the weekend: (approx) $100

That's $660 right there and doesn't even include gambling money, booze or hookers! (they got legal brothels there LOL)
If you want to buy pictures add another $45 or $80 for both days.
Things really start to add up.

Shit, why did I post here. Now I'm reminded of how much all this is really costing me. :panic:

YEAH...LOL

Believe it or not, I see some people party it up at night before and after a trackday. I personally get some food, have a drink or two (sometimes) and head back to my room. I can't hang like that. I do enough drinking when I'm at home. LOL Plus being even the least bit hungover for a trackday in 100+ degree weather just doesn't sound like too much fun. The hookers on the other hand...HAHA

If you ever roll through Vegas let me know, chances are there's a bunch of us riding that weekend and you can crash at one of our houses. We post all the track days at www.702sportbikes.com in the track and road racing section. Post up if you need a place to crash, someone will let you. I will if you don't mind sleeping on a couch.

If I tally up all the money I've spent since I took my MSF 1 year and 3 months ago... I bet it would total up to like 20 large

Don't think about the money... you're going to get addicted and then you don't have a choice. You just pay until you run out. Then you eat cheap food so you can afford more. Trust me... there's no escape.

It's a full floor with a notch in the front to put your front tire in and a nice ramp/gate to ride it up on. I don't think there's a groove for your tires, but put your front in the notch and you'll be centered on the trailer. There's good tires on there, I go like 70-75 and absolutely no wobble or anything. They're really solid trailers.

08-08-2008, 12:29 PM
enh, its all in where you load it if you use the bed...i know both tracks I have been to now have areas where there is either a ditch or a dirt ramp to assist in loading into a pickup...and having appropriate manpower helps...

I know theres 1 CR at jennings that has an insane cool method to get his up in his full size truck. Small guy, starts bike, has chair sitting near tailgate and ramp, give bike a lil go, runs with it, hits the chair and into the back he goes! Thats with his motard tho, he uses the dirt ramp for his honda...

Because towing is a bitch and a half... all the hooking it up, kills your gas mileage, you can't drive too fast, rattles all around in the tongue, backing up and parking is a pain, etc. Just get a wide ramp and clutch the fucker right up there into the bed as you walk next to it.

When I get a truck the bike will be in the bed all the time until I can afford an enclosed trailer.

LOL... it's a full on trackday put on by Sportbike Tracktime. I would recommend signing up now if you know you're going to be there. I am going to try and make it for the trackday on Friday, but I'm driving from Texas - in my new TUNDRA, this truck is pimp. I swear to freakin God - it's like driving a lazy boy. $235 - Track Orientation School (full TD with instructors)
(Next TD will be $155)
$150 - new rear Corsa III
$70 - gas in the truck to get it out and back
$14 - gas for the bike
$15 - food/drink while there

TOTAL $484

And I always haul the bike in the back of my pickup.
There is room for the ramp, EZ up, chairs, gas can, tool box, tires, misc bags etc.
Oh, and I usually find a ditch or something so it's not so steep, and then just ride the bitch in there.
