I have noticed that some people do this and others do not. I am just curious as to what people think/do regarding this situation.

I wave to everyone. It annoys me off when people dont' wave. Sure, there's times when you don't see a bike until the last minute, but if that's the case, there is an inordinate number of people I pass that aren't paying attention.
The best though, and only Harley guys in my experience are guilty of this, is when they will purposefully look down, or away, so they can't feel better about not waving at you.
Don't be a douchebag. Bottom line.
I try to wave at everyone, ill also flip off any who don't wave back...unless they're pagans. Lol

I'm a lazy asshole and there are a shit ton of motorcycles on the road here. If I waved at everyone my hand would be in an almost permanent wave. Fuck that.
I wave to most.

Between 4AM and 8AM I wave at everybody and usually everybody waves back, cruisers and euro bikes included.
Between 8AM and 10AM I'll wave to most but nod at cruisers.

I ysually dont get waves back from goldwings, custom choppers, and mexicans.
I wave most times unless I am not paying attention or doing something else and can't. There are a few roads here where it is common knowledge that waving is not required like the entire deals gap area.

I hardly ever initiate a wave, but I will wave back to anybody riding anything that waves first. I grumble to myself when a scooter or a trike rider waves first, but I still wave back
I've been riding 15 years. I'm sick of waving. You've got a motorcycle too, I get it, whoop-diddee-fucking-doo.

15 years? Wow, you're awesome. I had been riding 15 years about 22 years ago and I can still find it in me to wave.

So if I wave at people can I act like a superior asshole to people that don't wave too?

Superior asshole? I certainly wasn't the one bragging about how long I had been riding and that it justified my stuffiness and unwillingness to acknowledge a fellow rider who might be lesser than myself.

Lot of work to drop your hand off the bar and stick a finger or two out....

I never said I didn't wave. Actually, I do. I'm just sick of it. So now do I get to be a smug assbag about it as well?

I try not to. Don't care if anybody likes it. I'm on the same page as Sean. "Wow, we both have motorcycles..."

There are dozens of threads about waving on every motorcycle forum and usually people complain about those that don't. I've noticed something though especially with cruisers.
Most cruiser riders wear black jackets with black gloves. I usually initiate the wave (due to my obvious superiority) and those that appear not to wave are usually just raising a couple of fingers from their grip. Black fingers against a black background going 50+mph is hard to see from the other side of the highway.
I've rarely ever had anyone not wave if I waved first. I have noticed a lot of younger riders and just a few older riders look at me like they think something is wrong ahead or think something is in the road and I'm pointing at it but, most get it.
Next time you wave, look at the hand to see if they finger-waved (the good kind) or ignored you. I think a lot more wave than is realized but for whatever reason they don't want to take their hand off the bar.

Exactly. Do car drivers wave at each other?
Anyways, I mostly just nod these days. Taking my hand off the bar is too much work. Besides, you can see me nod just as well as you could see me wave, so what's the difference.

I don't initiate waves anymore, but I'll respond in kind if someone else does. Unless the sun is burning my eyes out like today and I couldn't see the 'wave' until it was too late. Sorry biker dude I pass on the highway on the way to/from work every day!

I wave cause I'm outwardly gay and want to make sure you know I like to dike out with chicks and I'm happy about it...
hold on wait...

I hate all of you.

Technically yes, Jeep drivers do. Its part of being in the "club". Its about the camaraderie. Same with the bikes.
I dont see what the big deal is. Just be friendly and wave.... :idk:

I'll wave to anyone who waves at me. Sometimes I'll wave first, but not all that often. I've noticed I get way more waves on the RC51 than the KTM 990 ADV.

It's a Southern thing! Same here on the back roads. Not so much on the highway. That could lead to carpal-tunnel!
