..In Defense of Gabby Douglas' Hair
Gabby Douglas is proudly representing her country in the Olympics. She's poised under pressure, performing gravity-defying athletic feats in front of an international audience. She's 16 and the second female African American U.S. gymnast to ever make the team. But instead of lauding her achievements, some people are slamming her for... not getting her hair done.

It's called the racist effect.
All NBC did was pimp Jordyn Weiber even though this girl won the US trials, it's a shame she didn't make the cut.
NBC fucking sucks... They blocked my mobile app cause I don't have a big enough TV programming plan. Had to VPN on a brit network and use the BBC app.
Racists gonna racist.

I have to say that just pisses me off! I haven't gotten to watch much of the gymnastics but, when I did I never once thought about any of their hair! I'm just damn proud of those girls and what they are able to do and have accomplished in the name of our country! People make me sick!

Same here. We had actually cancelled our Dish, but before I sent the receiver back I found out if you had a cable subscription you could watch every event. Didn't know you'd have to have a super expensive programming plan. Fuck those assholes. This Olympic coverage has been shit.
As far as haters, not surprising at all. Haters gon hate.

I'm glad it's about her hair and not some controversy which involves a black person swinging around like a monkey.
She's fucking badass. I don't see how the gymnasts can do what they do. It just defies gravity.

Agreed.
That much physical strength....and courage....packed into such small frames....it is incredibly impressive.....especially the uneven bars and floor exercises.
I couldn't care less about their hair....or nationality....I just watch them and appreciate them for what they do....display a superhuman amount of strength...courage....agility.

It's not so much defying gravity as it is a very graceful demonstration of applied physics.
And yeah, that young lady's skill and focus are something else. I've barely watched any of the Olympics, but I caught some of the gymnastics last night and was thoroughly impressed.

If Homeslice hasn't said anything about it, it can't be all that bad.

Exactly.
My wife and I were watching the vault, and I told her "I've done some pretty stupid shit in my time, but running full speed doing flips toward a small trampoline in an attempt to launch myself over an immovable object isn't one of them. And won't be anytime soon."
She called me a pussy.
So I showed her why Judo is still an Olympic sport.
Hip Throw, Bitch.
They only problem I got with Gabby is she defeats any purpose I have of watching gymnastics. I can't look at her butt without feeling like a pedo. Miss me some Shawn Johnson ass watching.

Gymnastics is something I wish I did in high school but never did because I was worried of being called gay and crap like that. Now that I'm older looking back all I can think is "I'd be in awesome shape, able to do cool shit, and oh yeah I'd be surrounded by crazy flexible and fit hot chicks". WTF was I thinking???
Remember this guy?

The fact that you have to prove youre paying for MSNBC and NBC Sports to watch the olympics is BS, and the prime time coverage has been garbage. But I have been watching a lot of live coverage online through Live Extra and theyve done a good job making all of the events available. Ive been playing it on a second screen while Im at work. Right now Im watching the women's heptathilon and its full of hotties.

Hahaha I was just thinking "I could've sworn she was only 16 or so at the beijing games."
Thats why I was an alicia sacromone fan in 08, I think she was 19 or 20 at the time lol.

Maybe they shoudl hold the Olympics in Atlanta again. Age of consent in GA is 16. Then agian, when the games go to Brazil it'll probably be 12 and all gymnasts will be of age. Which will probably be a major relief for all of the male female-sport coaches.

Bunch-a sickos. Or, making an attempt at being a legal sicko.
I think this olympics might be one of the best yet. Too bad I don't have any TV package and the coverage in the US is locked down by money/contracts so I have to hack my life into being able to watch it.
I mean, these girls flying through the air, people running when they don't actually have legs, swimmers breaking all sorts of records, the shooting has been awesome... all of it. Bravo to all of them.

Actually these games have probably been the most disappointing. They keep fucking everything up. Unless you like mistakes, then these games are awesome lol.

Yeah, with one coming from a very unexpected source. I haven't seen any follow-up interviews, but she must be crushed.
I felt bad for the girl that abandoned her second vault at the last second, too. You could tell she wanted to power through the pain, but based on the amount of time they were tending to her ankle afterwards it seems she made the right call.
ETA: Looked a couple reports up, and have to say it's impressive how she is handling it:
"I didn't deserve to to win gold if I landed on my butt... I'm not disappointed about the silver, I'm disappointed about my performance.
It happens, it's gymnastics and you can't be perfect and sometimes things don't go as you planned. I can't blame it on anything except I screwed up."

Except for all the rap stations in Columbus going nuts because they played that commercial of a monkey doing gymnastics RIGHT after they finished Gabby getting her gold medal. I saw that when it happened and facepalmed.

Ohio changed to 16 this year too. It just sounds creepy....

McKayla Maroney seems to be taking it good. Even on Twitter she was very positive. A gold and silver aren't bad. She said the silver medal was pretty....
