What the fuck??? Can Hollywood come up with a movie that isn't a remake or based off a comic book from the 60s?

Sure they can, but nobody watches them.
How many Benjamin Button action figures you think they sold?
None, they just shrank and disappeared.

Well, at least the Pacific Northwest is a more realistic invasion point han Colorado....
But I don't see much interesting about the basic premise
Maybe that's because I saw the original back when it was in the theatres

In the original russia came in two directions, down from the pac northwest and up from mexico via cuba. The Colorado location was where the deep insertion airborne guys went in, then after they dug in the tanks, infantry and other forces came rolling in. Thats the point where they were stopped.
In theory most of the midwest was littered with paratroopers, which is feasable because of the distances between towns. They bypassed the big cities, went straight for the smaller towns and military bases

The premise of the original one fit the times despite being a little light on reality.
The premise of this one is that North Korea invades the US.
This is after a re-write where originally China invades the US.
Based on that premise I can only conclude that in this film, the United States decides to change its name to North Korea and invade itself.

I find it mildly comical that graphic exists for a fictional war. Mildly.

People will kill each other debating a galaxy from long ago far far away that as far as we know doesn't or can't exist. It's not far fetched that a map exists for a somewhat possible war that I'm sure the DOD already had played out long before Red Dawn.
That was just the one I found on wikipedia, There are tons more out there

North Korea ability to project power is about the same as my ability to shit gold.
Even big "scare the mid west Evangelicals and Born Again's" China couldn't project more than (calculates distance from China to large body of water..or mountain or "place with a modern army")
China is like my Cats...all gangsta until you squirt them in the face with water.

Norht Korea? Really? I'll fear North Korea the day they can get their rockets to go higher than a discount Alabama bottle rocket.
You'd think they'd do an Arab Nation thing with SA, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, etc all joining forces. Well joining forces between the time they spend hating each other's guts. Still, it'd be more believable.

Those making this movie were extremely concerned about offending people with their choice of bad guy so they chose North Korea. Sure it is unrealistic, but little more than your idea or even the concept of the original. What isn't unrealistic is losing money on a movie when large blocks of the international audience is pissed off about it. The producers are not worried about pissing off the NK audience because they spend no money. They are worried about pissing off the cash holding audience in China or all the Arab countries that would be offended at the concept you mention. No matter who the bad guy is the concept is ridiculous, why loose money to make the concept a touch less ridiculous?

Funny, but I was expecting this remake ever since I saw "Tomorrow, When the War Began", which was essentially a "Red Dawn" remake made in Australia last year. They even have a sequel coming out this year.

They started out chinese and changed to koreans mid production
