so my friends sold us a little used Power Wheels Fire Rescue Jeep
we already have a race car and motorcycle, both basically given to us
http://www.modifiedpowerwheels.com/forum/userstuff/jasncab/200656195722_firerescuejeep2.jpg
so for i've ordered
2 new wheels, really could use 2 more
a new steering rack
i plan to add:
6v battery to make 18v = faster
also adding a independant 12v battery to power
a headlight/tailight and underglow kit
red/white strobes
joined another forum
http://forum.modifiedpowerwheels.com/
:lol
Nice! Cut a bike inner tube or tire in half and run the strip around the "tires" for better traction
RACER X
10-25-2012, 02:20 PM
thought about that too, but the added traction tears the motor/gears up....then again i can buy bigger gears on MO POWA!!!

I know in the robotics world, they handle 24v, but anymore and the gearboxes are suspect...

Yeah, for the most part guys just used the gearmotors... However, relays are cheap and you can certainly find one that wouldn't burn up...

Heh... 1 1/4HP... pretty good. In the combat robotic community (Battlebots), there were guys who started a barstool-like racing circuit... the only rule was that whatever they built had to fit into a theoretical cube 24"x24"x??, where '??' is unlimited. Basically, at 24"x24" footprint. Guys were putting e-tek motors in them at 72v... good for something like 30HP... I wonder how many of them lived...

Me too.
We had my nephew's quad for a while and went through the same thing. She'd push it for a while and then started riding it. Then it died.
I'm on the fence about what to get for Christmas; an electric toy or no?
I picked up a PW50 from a friend so I was going to forgo the battery stuff but I'm not sure if she's ready for the 50 yet...

If it has either the throttle or exhaust governor (or both) on it, it is what I consider reasonably safe. Our daughter could actually pedal her bicycle faster than the PW would go when it was fully governed.

True. But the exhaust one takes a little more work for a kindergarten aged kid. Or at least access to dad's tools.

The exhaust one was just a 5/8 washer in the exhaust pipe restricting it to about half the normal size.
Damn, looking at that pic, I don't think they ever changed anything on those bikes, except oil injection, and color (ours was blue/white). My wife pointed out that our PW has been used to teach at least 10 different kids to ride since 1995. We got rid of it in about 2000, and it has been passed around our circle of friends since then. Pretty damn cool.

made the wiring harness using OE connectors so i can take the extra 6v out w/o looking like i butchered the orig. harness, plut it'll work on the race car and motorcycle we have. :)
test drive tonight when we get home, already tested it, it WORKS!
waiting for the strobes to do lights and strobes together, running of the 2 extra 6v wiring together.

The wattage is pretty low and from the story the motor only makes .66 horsepower. I doubt it was going much more than 15 mph, but considering I've ridden go-carts with 6.5 horsepower that could barely break 30 mph I think he got pretty good results.

Probably the first one, since he's in love with trucks. But I think the second is sleeker, and built for speed. But the truck has rubber tires already. Plus the truck comes with 24v battery, won't take a lot of work to make it fast.
