Been too skeptical of this first non-Bungie release. I'll wait to see what folks think.

halo 3 was a disappointment for me so I'll wait till I can get H4 for $10.
I don't get the commercial about an "ancient" evil awakens. I believe that happened in the first one. Guess Halo 5 will have a new newer ancient evil.

"Combat in "Halo 4" is more strategic than the hard-charging style we've come to know from previous "Halo" games"
So you have to duck and recharge your infinite health more often?

guns are very key, you run out of ammo if you play like before, and die alot faster
Nawww... I had not turned on my 360 in months (I am pretty strictly a PC gamer), so I took it in a few weeks ago, and traded it, with all my games, on a WiiU Deluxe bundle pre-order. With all the games, I ended up with a 'free' WiiU, and 2 games. So no Halo 4 for me. I haven't really been a fan of the series since Halo 2. Reach was alright I guess. But I prefer Battlefield 3 for my online killing.

I just beat the campaign. I loved it. Graphics are amazing, storyline is incredible, and gameplay fucking rocks. You really do have to be more tactical on this one- "run 'n' gun" just won't work.
To be fair, I love this franchise. With the glaring exception of ODST, I think all the games are worthwhile (Reach included). This is actually the only game I've ever pre-ordered.

(I am pretty strictly a PC gamer),
And here I thought I was one of the only people still clinging to PC gaming.
I've never played any of the Halo games, but it has always looked interesting.
I do have a friend's Xbox on extended loan. If I were to try out Halo, where should I begin?

If Xbox 360, you could start with Halo: CE Anniversary Edition and see the original game with an updated look. Halo: Reach would be a good place to start as well, it being a prequel in terms of storyline. Any of the others would bring you in in the middle of the story, which could be annoying.
Of course, if you don't have an opportunity to play the multiplayer side, you'll only be seeing half or less-than-half of what made the game such a hit in the first place.
Halo: CE and Halo 2 were released for the PC, the first for XP and the second for Vista. Don't know how they run on a current OS.

If you need a copy of the games, I think I have the first one for 360... I did an impulse buy and ordered another XBox. We don't live that far from you now, so you're free to come borrow it. :D
Edit: Borrow the game, I mean, since you have an XBox on loan.

If you have a bored friend call them over. Co-op story is pretty damn fun.

halo was the first game i got involved in, multi player in the dorms was prolly why i did njot have a 4.0, that and cheerleaders, they get you every time. i love the story and it was almost like a movie that took years to be told, I made it a point to nerd out and pre order and wait inline just for the hell of it when it released, was always something to look forward to. havent finished 4 yet i think i am getting close, im flying a pelican through what should be the fucking death star lol

Been hesitant on it as well...Was HUGE Into Halo,2 and Sadly 3 though i was dissapointed in 3 just like everyone else.
never played Reach and ODST but I will most likely eventually buy Halo 4.
I've heard mixed reviews but most have been that i should buy it.
I heard that 4 is better than 3 or reach, and almost as good as 2. Like I said though, i traded my 360 on a WiiU preorder. I'm a sucker for new tech. Even if its old tech packaged as new tech.
One of my video cards (Dual HD 6990's) has more power and ram than a 360, PS3, Wii, and WiiU combined. The best thing about the next gen coming will be seeing my comp do what it was built for. Though i'll probably sell this and build something bigger by then, with the 7xx and HD 8xxx series of card coming, and the expected 8 core, 5ghz Intel Processors in march, as the current 8 cores are underwhelming at best,. and barely outperform my i7 960.

I think that's the problem for a lot of people, though.
Laptops and my linux machine (Zotac ZBox) aside, I've built all my own PC's. Most people can't be bothered to do that so they're stuck with a budget off-the-shelf PC that plays like ass, the sticker shock of a pre-built gaming machine, or the nice, friendly, affordable console.
Makes the choice pretty simple for them.
Personally, I like being able to type in my cheat codes on a real keyboard

But, for 600$, I can build a PC that is way ahead of any console. Sure, that is double the price of a 360 or PS3, but with the money you save on games on steam compared to console games, the comp pays for itself. I can't build my PC for that, but my PC is ridiculous, and future proofed for the next 5 years. Dual HD6990's, i7 960 extreme (OC'd to 4.2ghz), 16gb RAM, 180GB SSD, and 2 10krpm WD Raptor HDD's, all in a raid array. Plus i've got video recording hardware, bluray burner, and three screens. Razer Blackwidow ultimate, a 16 button mmo mouse, and a 5 button FPS mouse, both Razer's as well.
Plus lights. Lots of lights. Straight outta Fast and the furious. :lol

Already planning the black friday shopping list for my next PC. FFXIV fucked up something in my current setup.. it overheats way too easy now when under any stress.

You are still playing that shitty ass game?
Why not format? There is no way a game can hurt your hardware. Even one as bad as XIV.

Haha nah I haven't played in months. It's been known to wreak havoc on vid cards though. It's nothing software since it only crashes when stressed. What makes sense is the vid card or the power supply. I have a 750W Corsair though, so I doubt it's that. The GTX 470 is used, so I can see that crapping out. However, I had the fan revved way up to keep the temps at an acceptable range and it still crashed.
It can be anything really since I built this on a budget. It could be the Phenom II X2 that I unlocked to a II X4. It could be the second hand 470. It could be the mid range MSI board. It could be the power supply overheating. It could be the ram that was more geared toward Intel chips (though seems to work fantastic with AMD). You see what I'm getting at.
Go outside. And answer your phone. :lol
Answer it? I lost it two months ago during the moose hunt. Don't feel like springing 500$ for a new one before xmas. Or more accurately, I can't afford to before x-mas.

Finally came in on Saturday. Finally got to play it for 15 minutes on Sunday. Feels like Halo so far.
The cut-scene rendering is out-fucking-standing (human faces, etc.). Can't tell yet if that translates to the gameplay, haven't run across any Marines or other humans yet.

I did not pre order the game, but i was at my friends house the night it was released. We player about 2 hours of multiplayer and 3 of campaign. Like many have said, the game looks fan-fucking-tastic. The guns sound louder and more realistic. Some of the forerunner guns are super cheap, and even the needler is over the top. Definitely look for some of those guns to be Nerf'd. Campaign seems thrilling 3 hours in...
But i dont plan on buying it as i have gone to the dark side and bought myself a gaming desktop. Running dual quad-core processors and dual graphics cards (ones a gts8800, not sure the other). Really enjoying the Steam games i bought last year at the Christmas sale that my old lappy couldn't run. Just installed Windows 8 a couple nights back....

Missing the music style from the older scores. The new stuff seems too laid back.
