I was riding up Lookout Mountain when a fast bike came up behind me. I got behind some cars and pulled into the turn out for Windy Saddle. The bike pulled next to me. A young man on a Suzuki SV650. We shot the breeze and he said he learned to ride in the dirt. I said I have a video camera and pulled it out of my tankbag. I mounted it quickly on the handlebar and he said the cars must be far enough ahead now and pulled out. I followed behind him.

He was very fast and got way ahead of me. Luckily, he got behind another biker that slowed him down until I caught up. He was going up to Evergreen and I was going to the Nature Center. I turned off at the end and he went on:

Looks like he is throttling out of the corners faster - that is where he appears to gain his lead quite a few times.

You can hold a lot of corner speed with a SV, plus their on/off switch throttles let em get out of the corners quick too.

Indeed. You could see his head track toward the bicyclist and the motorcycle follow.

As you can see, I like taking up the whole lane. So I hate being confined to just one tire track. But this video was going uphill. Going downhill, it's rare to pass some of the faster bicyclists.

I learned to ride mountains on a three-cylinder two-stroke. No not a Kawi, but a Suzuki. There's no engine braking. I rode my old GS1000 in this video. I use my rear brake around the tight corners and keep the throttle open. There's no pitching, just even transition. After some corners I go Wide Full Open. That's when the camera shakes. The SV rider was just very good.

You can hold a lot of corner speed with a SV, plus their on/off switch throttles let em get out of the corners quick too.

I slowed down a lot more for the corners than he did. But I did everything right. I leaned off the bike just before the curve, looked around the corner, didn't fixate on the bicyclists (I didn't realize how many there were until I watched the video), and I didn't fixate on the SV rider. He was just a lot better than me. I don't know if it shows, But I rode my tail off to keep up with him.

Not saying you did anything wrong - he was finding the tiniest fraction of a better line allowing him to throttle out sooner... Probably a function of him riding a lighter bike than that GS1K - you had a helluva lot more mass to throw around... I'd be interested to see you follow that guy while riding another SV - my money is on you keeping up.

Great bikes, those SV's. There's a reason I've owned mine for 10 years

And they hold their value. I found a pretty blue 2001 on CL for $3K: http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/3775389463.html

It sucks tye guy got plowed but I dont feel sorry for him. That is a vehicle/bike haven. Tuey pick tye busiest roads to cycle on when there are hundreds of county roads they can be on.
