With the recent rumors of the ultralight, 220hp, $65k Ducati exotica, are we seeing the first reaction to the new WSBK EVO rules for 2014 and beyond???

The introduction of the EVO rules will see the end of the firebreathing World Superbike machines as we know them. But they could also see the return of the homologation special, the specialist race bike produced in very small quantities at a very high price.

Honda seems to be next up with their V4 Fireblade homologation special, even though Italian Honda just released a PR statement saying no homologation bike is coming to the ECIM show later this year....

Wasn't the Desmosedici RR a homologation special? Yes they were quite expensive but if I recall they made 1,200 of them. I quite liked the Desmo double-R. I wouldn't mind seeing more homologation specials. Could be a nice side effect, as the article pointed out.
