Wow, Texting huh. I always wanted... nope I didnt't. Not a bad device for your phone though. A lot of people do use the iphone for songs. Oh wait let me guess all the "real riders" don't let music distract you from your riding.
I do and so do many I know on here even if they don't chime in...

your girlfriend rae does. she cannot ride without it.
Me, i NEED it for long boring rides to make the bars on my gas meter fall quicker, but if im riding anything technical i consider it a distraction.
I'd love to be able to update my calendar in the twisties though.

I actually have a bluetooth headset made for helmets. Works really well. I called a friend going 80 when I first got it and I could hear him great and he said he could hardly tell i was riding. Texting though is absolutely retarded.

Calls on the bike is one thing I have yet to take. I did call Drewpy once and could hear the pig oinking away and figured out he was doing it!
Shit I don't even carry my cell phone anymore. I leave it at home most times unless I'm riding. Ya never know when you need to dial for the life flight if your off a cliff. And if you can't get to it due to loss of consious state then fuck it! Sweet Silence is on its way!
Seriously i'm on the phone all day at work and riding my time and not for calls, But music, Hell ya! If you have never rocked Metalica's Seek and Destroy while blasting down the road, you stand to gain something by doing so.

As matter of fact, I do ride with music. I HAVE to have it when I am street riding as my ADD will distract me. You know, riding along, oh look, a squirrel!! DAMN, TREE!!!
Ok, so i'm not that bad, and I know when it gets bad and I take measures, I dont endanger those around me, but its always better for me to have music to distract those random thoughts, it helps me focus on the road. But i dont answer or play with my phone when I ride. And when i ride the track I never have music...its all personal preference, and Metallica is DEF a good choice, as well as Ozzy, Shinedown, Disturbed...etc...

I'd throw a Smokey and the Bandit paint scheme on that.
I used the MP3 for riding to work in bumper to bumper or long rides. Never in the mountains or close to Atlanta it's self. However I killed my MP3 mountain biking and now I have nothing.
I disabled Texting from my phone so that device wouldn't do me any good. I lost a ton of friends doing that too. It was awesome!!!

A GPS mount or regular MP3 player mount wouldn't be bad... If he's making them himself, dude could be on to some money.
That being said, I saw a guy riding down the road, talking on his cell phone the other day. Gixxer... go figure.

I have a ram mount for my GPS... they have one for older iPods... but I'll just stick that in my tank bag...
when I'm riding I just stick to my "riding" playlist... don't change songs... just let the playlist play on random and loop all.
pretty cool idea for a GPS though... which if I remember right the iPhone has...
as for text and phone use... pull your ass over if you need to text/talk that bad

I focus better on riding when listening to music... same as when I'm driving... with out it... my mind wanders... and I stop paying attention to what i'm doing...
it's weird though as I don't concentrate on the music... but it stops my mind from wandering... and keeps me focused on the task at hand... which usually is figure'n out if the asshole in the BMW is gonna cut off the Soccer mom in the Suburban and cause her to slam on her brakes and or swerve into my lane...

The constant wind noise and your motor humming along can make your mind drift easier than anything.
That's why you see crosses on perfectly straight highways. People just zoning out watching the lines and listening to the humm of the road.
And I believe the autobahn in Germany was designed to constantly change directions to prevent people from drifting off. Gotta pay attention if running 100mph and the road keeps changing directions.
With the right volume (Not blasting your drums out) of music and as long as it's not some trickling waterfall CD or Rage Against the Machine. Then music can help.
But when hauling ass in the mountains I ride with no radio so I can consentrate on everything around me.
fuck you i wont do what you tell me
Mr Lefty
08-21-2008, 11:41 PM
I usually have Techno in my riding playlist. kinda gets me into a rythim... but my mind doesn't drift off to what the song reminds me of...
yeah I've got add something horrible.
my playlist is as randomly thrown together as is humanly possible. prob the best "riding" song on there though is Whats up people! from the opening of deathnote. cant stand the show but the music was amazing

Exactly!! Thats how I am. I dont even necessarily know or acknowledge what I am listening to, but it helps me to focus. I see everything on the road already, but there is always so much going on in my head that i am thinking about several different things as well as the ride. Just how my head works. Kinda like multitasking. The music calms the other thoughts so all my attention is on the ride at that point. At the track I dont need it, as I am completely focused on the task at hand, but with all the loooooong straight boring ass roads around here...its easy to mentally wander off!

When I go out for rides to no where and people text me there like angry that I dont respond...I get the "Hey whats up" text then like 10 15 mins later there like "Where are you?" then again its like actualy anger...I'm like jesus people I ride a Fucking motorcycle...Maybe I'm on it??!!

My radar mount has a second mounting space for whatever. In the 14 years I've owned it I've used it for cell phones,mp3 players,my gps,a camcorder, even a cd player. I gave up on answering calls while riding mostly because the sound quality isn't very good and bad cell reception/inaudible calls send me off the deep end instantly! I've been considering getting a bluetooth intercom system to hook my radar and gps (which also holds a 4 gig sd card for music) which will make me wireless and make it possible for me to take calls while riding. I doubt that I will do it though. I like the solitude and the music my bike makes while I ride better than any cd I own.

You know alot of athletes who perform extremely intricate maneuvers listen to music while they do it... besides under "normal" conditions,I don't think that riding a bike is any more engaging or harder than driving a car,all things being equal of course.

We don't listen to music while driving in cars their either. It's a distraction, plain and simple. The other factor is being able to take direction from instructors, which is impossible with something playing music in your ears.
