= hooky day!!!!!!
:D
We're in the midst of T.S. Fay right now.... Both of our companies closed today, which means we stocked up on a ton of food and a ton of beer, and prepared for the worst.
What we GOT, however, is some rain, a little bit of wind, and a nice relaxing day off. :D

Awesome, glad it didnt turn out too badly for ya'll. I know we're expecting to get quite a bit of it on Saturday, but then again, the way these things change, it will flip and head south again!

I guess we haven't ACTUALLY gotten the worst she's got to offer, since it spent most of the day literally STATIONARY just south of us. We've gotten a couple inches of rain, some good squalls, and now it's been pouring pretty steadily for a couple of hours. Winds around 40 mph (I guess gusts around 60 :shrug) but no limbs down (we have a ton of huge old trees) and while a transformer blew earlier in the day, we literally only had a power flicker, never went out.
We're close to the river and a big lake, but we're up on a hill, so I don't think flooding will be an issue where we live.
Hopefully she'll have petered-out before she makes it out your way!
heh so i just figured out what a fay is lol

This storm just comfirmed how retarded most people in FL are. Everyone was FREAKING OUT over nothing. Wal-Mart was amazingly fucked up and crazy... Publix was a disaster... Home Depot was a gigantic clusterfuck...
Granted, flooding in some areas was bad (not here in Orlando), but I had numerous people (even managers) calling out of work over a few inches of rain and the threat of 50mph winds. I've been through worse storms in fucking Ohio...

My work lost power for the first time last night... three times actually for a grand total of about 1 second. My house never lost power.

lol, ya I saw that one also. Makes you wonder why he didn't just let go...
But if he was straped in I guess you would have to act quickly. Anyone who tries that in a storm is playing with fire.

I won't diagree with ya on the CRAZINESS at grocery stores and such. The other problem is HERE, hurricane week coindided with the first week of school for the whole area, which = double the chaos. :panic:
We've had storms with 50, even 70 mph gusts (heck, one just two weeks ago) before, but this was literally about 36 hours of SUSTAINED 50+ mph winds. As I suspected when I first started this thread, we hadn't seen the worst of it yet.
In our neighborhood there are about a dozen HUGE old oak trees down. Just MASSIVE trees... it's mind blowing to see them just snapped in half, or uprooted completely. LUCKILY, 1.) we don't have a single tree down, and 2.) in our neighorhood, there's no structural damage that we've seen. All the trees that came down either went across yards/driveways/fences, or between houses. So no one's homes were destroyed (though the bed of a Ram truck up the street has seen better days  ).
We did lose power for about 21 hours though. Not the end of the world, but not entirely pleasant in Florida in August either.

Yeah the "official" rainfall for Melbourne (about 3 hours south) was 22" - but reports are some areas got 32". :panic:
We probably got right about 14" here. We drained the pool a foot on Wednesday; by mid morning yesterday, it was within an inch of overflowing. Drained it another 8" or so, and got a few inches more throughout the day.
Making me more and more glad that I flew to Lauderdale rather than ride...
HELL YES!!!
