SO my neighbor just tells me that if he hears my dog barking, he's going to call animal control.
Is this a valid reason?
Basically, I let her out around 8:20 every morning and she's outside until around 6pm. He said that she disturbs her sleep, granted, he is the only one who has ever complained.
Of course, being the sweetheart that I am, I said "Go ahead an call them, since you know, dogs aren't supposed to bark"
I also said "Oh yeah, what time does she disturb your sleep?" he said "Uh, I dunno, daybreak"
So I said, "well, I don't let her out til around 8:30, day must be breakin' pretty late these days"
Could he be scared of dobermans?

I just think he's an old prude.
He has a "NO TRESPASSING" sign on his fence. WTF?
Like I was just gonna go in and trespass on his property had that sign not been there.

I say let animal control come, the dog isnt being a danger to anyone, causing trouble for ANYONE else, except this asshat.
last I checked, if you let your dog out at 8:30am, and this guy is still sleepin then, thats perfectly legal, since I think after 8AM most places the good majority of the world is already up and wide awake. find out if he works nights or something like that. if he works nights and sleeps during the day, maybe he IS in fact being disturbed by your dog, in which case, just buy the guy some earmuffs and soundproofing for his walls.

i have a ignorant neighbor just like you..ive called the cops on them a few times. they now have to have a bark collar on their crappy dog.
in nj its illegal to have a dog barking more than 30 mins and charges can be pressed.
animal control can and will take the dog away if it becomes a nuisance, people like you have 0 respect for your neighbors. get a bark collar and have some respect for your neighbors.

its not about being a danger its a nuisance.

Yeah, 30 minutes. My dog doesn't do that.
I talked to Knox County, basically the law says that it is a problem if:
The dog barks non-stop for 10 minutes.
The dog barks for 30 minutes with each break of barking lasting no longer than 30 seconds.
All is null and void is the dog is actually barking at something e.g. human, other dog, squirrel, etc.
So, maybe you and my neighbor can share a box of midol.
And, just cause you bought a house in the neighborhood doesn't mean you own the neighborhood, jackass. I think I'll go outside and clean my guns in my backyard now.

telling a dog not to bark is like telling a baby not to cry. it's what they do, like it or not. perhaps we should start putting shock collars on babies before we take them into restaurants as well.
seriously, some people are too sensitive. like you are intentionally putting your dog outside in hopes of waking the neighbors. people need to keep their nose in their own backyards and quit trying to run everyone else's lives.

So I had to go in to work to finish up some Exchange server stuff I was doing so I figured I would record my backyard when I was gone. My neighbor who complained was the one to the back of me...
I wanted to make sure that he was full of ****, so I decided to record for that purpose. Well, I just got done watching 45 minutes of tape and not once does she bark...

Ok,I have a tendency to be a "loud" neighbor, with the bike and my old dual exhaust truck, surround sound, screaming girlfriends, etc. BUT I must a hypercritical bastard to the extent of complaining about babies and dogs. I did not tell you to get a dog. Why should I be inconvenienced even in the slightest way by your animal? The other neighbors have dogs that don't bark all day. My dog doesn't bark all day. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to be able to sleep all day if I want to. Quit worrying about my lifestyle/schedule and do something about it. In a way, you're lucky because a lot of people would have turned you in without even giving you the chance to address the situation.
Children under a certain age should not be allowed in restaurants or movies PERIOD! Especially if you can't control them. Once again,I did not have any part in you having children, why should I "share" the burden/annoyance of raising them? Why do I have to smell it if they shit all over themselves? If you have to dine in until they are old enough to behave in public, then so be it. What really gets me is when the baby is screaming it's damn head off and the people just sit there and eat dinner like nothing is happening! One of the parents should suck it up and take the kid to the car or something. Same thing goes for movie theaters. I didn't just drop $30 so me and my girl could listen to your kid cry for 2 hours. Go rent a fucking movie and stay home with the kid YOU decided to have!!!

I could see your point if the dog is barking ALL day, but since most dogs dont do this, I dont see the issue. You dont like my dog barking on occasion (since he is let into the house if he starts barking too much), tough shit. Turn up your tv/radio. I could care less if my neighbors want to be that petty about something. Like I said, if hes barking nonstop for a while thats different. And kyle said he puts his dog out at 830am, its not like its out there barking at 3am. In his case I say fuck what his neighbor thinks. The other ones dont have any issues and he recorded it and the dog didnt bark, so fuck em.

Yea,I see what you are saying BUT maybe the other neighbors are gone during the day or don't have the balls to say anything. Just because no one else complains doesn't mean that this guy is wrong. I don't know the exact situation but I have had neighbors with dogs that never stop barking and it's all I can do not to load my shotgun!!! Do you honestly feel that this guy DOESN'T have the right to expect some semblance of tranquility in his own home? Why not? If that's your attitude,I guess I have the "right" to blast my stereo all day. Who cares if my neighbor just had a baby or this guy works third shift,FUCK 'EM!,right?

You may want to re-read my post before replying. I clearly stated a couple of times that if its for long periods of time or all day that it needs to be handled, but if its just for short periods of time during the middle of the day, then its kind of expected for a dog to bark. If the dog barks for a few minutes everu couple hours then whats the difference between that and when people drive by with their stereos bumping or with loud pipes? If they are bitching about a dog barking for a few minutes then yes, fuck em.

I read what you said... Basically, your neighbors are required to put up with some level of annoyance from you/your animals/your kids/etc and if they don't like it too bad! As long as you don't think it's too much then they have nothing to say about it.

Well, I have A Doberman. They can be hard to cage train. BUT it is way safer than leaving it outside all freaking day like a junk yard dog. My 100 lb beast would get stolen in 2 seconds outside if they could get close to him.
With all that could go wrong... Like your pissed off neighbor throwing a few rat poison hot dogs over the fence or it getting free and attacking some kid, or worse getting hit by a car, Why not just suck it up and cage that fucker. Mine is in a large cage from 7:30am to 6pm every fucking day. I work and he does time. Thats just the way it is and when I get home my stuff isnt destroyed and he is still alive.

Oh I can't argue with that! I basically avoid theaters now and rent/download all my movies for that very reason. In my opinion it's all the same thing, whether you bring in an external annoyance or if you are the annoyance. Please don't get me wrong,I'm not perfect by any stretch but I'll at least try to be a decent neighbor. I don't gun my bike in the parking lot,I turn my stereo down as I approach the driveway,I keep my stereo at a reasonable level. If one of my neighbors came to me with a concern I would at least make the attempt to compromise. It's not all about me and what I want.

people that gripe about crying babies and barking dogs are the same people that bitch about loud pipes on bikes. they are the ones that are trying to silence the world completely. you want quiet isolation? move to the sticks. it ain't my fault people choose to live in the suburbs, work 3rd shift or sleep til 2pm, etc. my yard is my yard and what i do in it is my business, be it pets, bikes, loud sex...whatever. when will the noise policing ever stop? how about i don't tell you what to do and you don't tell me what to do? peaceful coexistence...

Guys, my dog lays inside most of the day. She goes outside to shit and piss and sometimes run around.
She's not outside all day, she's a smart dog and likes to be in the A/C.
She doesn't bark all day. If she did, I would gladly get a bark collar, but she doesn't do that. Actually, she doesn't bark at all unless I'm home. She is highly defensive of me and will bark at anything that she feels is a threat when I am around. When I'm not at home, she lays in the garage.
I think the dude was just pissed because Holley (my dog) was barking her head off at this dude as he was trying to plow up his garden while I was outside. Had I not been home, she wouldn't have even done that.

So you highlight the part of my quote that said that I bring him in shortly after he starts barking and then say that I leave him out there as an annoyance to my neighbors. What sense does that make? Would you prefer I predict exactly when hes going to start barking (typically when someone is walking another dog down the street and he sees it around the side of the house) and let him in ten seconds prior. Im definitely going to stick with what I said. If thats too much of an issue for them, its their problem. If that would be an issue to you if your neighbors dog barked for 2 minutes before coming into the house, good luck ever having a neighbor with a pet.

Honestly dude, I wouldn't care if you mowed your lawn at 6am. That is a normal maintenance thing and I understand that. If you were setting off fireworks at 4am, that's a different story.
If there is a dog barking at 4am, that's a little odd. If there is a dog barking at 9am, I don't care and won't say anything. I'm prejudice though. I love dogs.
I respect my neighbors and their rights. I don't take an elitist point of view to my property.

2 good examples of what I was trying to say. If its normal noise, its fair game. Its only an issue to me if its extremely loud or obviously obnoxious.

Ok,let's see...I quoted that line because you said if he barks too much...according to you. Since both of you own dogs, you have admitted that you have a somewhat biased opinion on the subject. I can use the same logic to excuse my 600 watt car stereo. Anyway, you're never gonna convince me that you wouldn't be at least irritated if your neighbor mowed his lawn every Sat at 6am,I would be! Initially, you came off like, "Fuck that guy if my dog barks all day,he gonna have to deal with it". Also, you first said that you leave your dog outside from 8:30 am - 6:00 pm,but now the dog is inside for most of the day.
IDK I just got home on my bike,I took it easy when I got to the parking lot and I turned it off as I pulled up to the building...
BTW I really don't care what nuisances you are to your neighbors. It seems like a fun argument to have!

i dont complain about loud pipes but when i cant work in my OWN back yard because of a dog barking at me its a problem i own my home and pay my taxes. its my RIGHT to have peace and quiet. some people dont choose where they want to live or what hours they want. the red highlighted statement makes you look stupid...think about that for a few minutes.

So, You have a doggy door large enough for a Doberman? Your floors must look like shit! Or you spend 2 hours everyday cleaning up when you get home.
Why again not crate her? There simple minds really do seek direction and that much freedome is not good in my opinion. It's not "mean" to cage a dog.
I didn't like the idea either at first but once you see the acceptance and change in training you will thank me.
They respect the house much more and dont have the wandering of the mind all day in a cage.

Our dog stays outside 95% of the time. At night, she goes into a cage in the backyard that is 4' by 8' with a 4' by 4' completely enclosed part at the end. Now, when we leave her out in the back yard, she will occasionally run up and lay in her cage like its just another place, not a jail cell that she hates.

Very true, my dog is in his cage if no one is home for long periods of time and at night. We even started letting him stay out at night but he just goes to the door of the room until someone lets him in to put him to bed at night.

Thats just the way it is and when I get home my stuff isnt destroyed and he is still alive.

no one, repeat no one would fuck with your dog... he is 200 pounds of tnt in a 80 pound package...

Ignorant? I'm curious what would make her sound ignorant in that statement. Well, other than the use of *ain't*. It is NOT my fault that you have made the choices YOU have made in life. That goes for where you life, the job you have chosen, whether or not you have spawned, pets or no pets, which pipe you have on your vehicle, etc. etc.
I am not in any way responsible for you.
Not today, and not tomorrow.
Personally, I appreciate a dog that will bark when there is something odd going on. That dog will alert ME when something is going on. Now, I understand a repeat offender too often will just be a false alarm, and become more than annoying. Can't someone just be a man and come to your door to discuss it? Why all the passive aggressive bullshit?
Why not actually have the stones to TALK to your neighbor? What the fuck is wrong with you?? It's people like you that have made the world the way it is to day... and that really pisses me off. REALLY. But, you go on with your bad self...

Where to begin...
She's ignorant to think people always have choices in life as to where they work, their hours, or where they live. You're ignorant for saying the same.
Second I did say something to my neighbors but assumptions usually happen with ignorant people. Actually numerous conversations. One being they gave me a squirt gun to squirt it when it barked. I politely declined and suggested a bark collar. I'm not gonna come outside and squirt the dog all day, I have a life.
I could bet the two of you had a lot handed to you growing up. I know you'll deny it but I'd put a paycheck on it. Anyone who makes assinine(sp?) statements like "well don't choose to live there/don't take night shifts." Is a ignorant person to the world.
Having a dog barking constantly is like me using a jackhammer, its annoying and not apart of the natural noises I want to here after busting my ass all day at work. A dog barking once in a while is one thing but when it yaps its head off for an hour straight that's too much. Its called respect your neighbors...

You DO have a choice.
I didn't have anything handed to me growing up. I grew up on a Dairy farm in Wisconsin - and earned everything I have today. I haven't always had a job, education, place in life. I've worked and lived all across this country and a few others. Go spend time in another country if you think you have any RIGHT to just live in your bubble.
The idea of someone simply being ignorant because they have a position in life that is different than yours, is... well, ignorant.
You have no right to sleep.
You have no right to not be annoyed.
Welcome to the world where we aren't going to give you a hug and a cookie because life is hard.
Now, if you have discussed with THEM the points like a rational adult with no luck; you have the right to seek assistance with a higher power (law, lawyer, animal control, etc.). I didn't say you don't. But, then I thought you had common sense; which you still haven't proven to me that you have.

Sometimes you DON'T have a choice...and that makes you ignorant to the world around you if you believe you always have a choice.
I also said she was ignorant for believing that people have a choice always in life with their jobs and hours. Nothing about her position in life. Try to stay on topic.
This is america you have a right to live in the home and not deal with a ignorant neighbor who won't go out and get a bark collar or give his dog the proper training.
Its not that hard of a concept. Its a dog its a luxury to own one, its not a necessity. So if you're gonna have one take the right measures and make sure it doesn't annoy your neighbors who work for a living to have peace and quiet.

No one HAS to stay at a certain job. No one is forcing anyone to work certain hours, they dont like it, they can quit and find a new job. I have to choices to go into tons of debt for a mansion or to save a ton by living in a shit hole apartment somewhere.
And I would like to see the part of the constitution that states that you have a right to peace and quiet and how a barking dog would violate it. I realize you can call the cops for disturbing the peace for the noise, but thats in no way the same thing as a right.

So the people were forced to have the child that they cant afford a babysitter for? They also HAD to live somewhere that didnt allow them to be able to afford the extra money for the babysitter? I must have missed the point in time when America turned communist.
And if youd quit telling people to read shit and try it yourself, youd see that I already mentioned that yes I know what noise ordinances are and such but that in no way makes it a right. If it was a right like the right to life, liberty etc, people would be locked up for long periods of time just like murderers, kidnappers and others that take rights away from other people.
Now can we all play nice or you want to continue to demonstrate how much of a hard ass you are by calling others childish names on the internet?

the choice was wear a condom to prevent the child no one can afford. obviously said person failed that test. also, if one is working nights so someone can be home during the day with the child, wouldn't that person be awake anyways to watch the child...therefore making a barking dog a non-issue during the daytime hours because it isn't causing a sleep disturbance due to shift work. did you think this through? feel free to re-read it if necessary. :D

from what I gather and commented on btw,the neighbor did approach the op about his dog and it seemed that he basically said "fuck you, deal with it,dogs are gonna bark!". It's very rare in today's society for someone to actually come to you if they have a problem with you. They go to the cops, courts, your boss (at work),the landlord, etc. I appreciate it when someone give me the opportunity to address disputes between us before calling in "big brother".:2cents:

How can your desire to own an obnoxious dog be more important than everyone else's desire for peace? I don't get it...

Is it REALLY your right to subject MY children to that? I know you're a liberal but why do your individual rights outweigh the neighborhood's collective rights? How can your desire to own an obnoxious dog be more important than everyone else's desire for peace? I don't get it...
why do the neighborhood's collective rights outweigh my individual rights? because there's more of them?
now i'm just arguing for argument's sake.

No, its just that everyone FAILS at READING COMPREHENSION.
Dog can go in and out all day. Dog door goes in to the garage.
Ahh...but you also stated that the dog stays inside by the AC due to it's superior intelligence. Granted,it's possible that your garage has AC....
Oh and I don't believe I've insulted your intelligence in any way, sir. Now,since, you bring it up,my comprehension of your posts would VASTLY improve if your grammar, spelling and syntax would do the same. Thankyou, for clearing up that small point and for a "lively" reparte' and now sir,I take my leave of this rather tedious subject! Adieu'!

I don't understand this argument anymore... are you and Azoom actually saying in this and previous posts that people DON'T have a right to some semblance of peace in their homes? That if I'm your neighbor and I decide to cut down some trees at 4am,it would be cool with you? Don't you have children? What if I have naked people fornicating on my yard at all times day or night, wouldn't that bother you? You mentioned that you have "loud sex" in your yard. There are RIGHTS.
Then, there are actions that are illegal.
Just because someone does something illegal, it does not mean that someone does or does not have the RIGHT to have or not have the opposing action or reaction.
In this country, you have the RIGHT to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You don't even have the RIGHT to happiness itself - just to have the ability to pursue it.
Ignorance might have been HIS bad word choice. As, the way I see it, he is the one with the ignorant argument. And, he's fun to poke with sticks. All this time, completely missing any point I agreed with him on - just continuing to argue for the sake of arguing.
You have no RIGHT to a quiet home.
However, if someone has loud sex on your front lawn you CAN call the police. What they are doing is illegal.
He does NOT have the RIGHT to kill a dog with a tossed poisoned hot dog just because his neighbor lets the dog bark. It's on HIM to prove the dog is a nuisance.
We do not live in a Socialist society. If you want RIGHTS that are good for the collective, move to Sweden.
Oh, and you have a choice. You don't HAVE TO work the shift you are working. Move, buy a house within your means or rent. Give up some toys so you can pay your bills without both parents working. Stop living on credit. Hell, go get an education on the state and get a better job with better pay. If I had more time, I could give you more CHOICES.
Oh, FYI... civil rights
A broad range of privileges and rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and subsequent amendments and laws that guarantee fundamental freedoms to all individuals. These freedoms include the rights of free expression and action (civil liberties); the right to enter into contracts, own property, and initiate lawsuits; the rights of due process and equal protection of the laws; opportunities in education and work; the freedom to live, travel, and use public facilities wherever one chooses; and the right to participate in the democratic political system.
It's NOT your RIGHT.
sorry, my government professor has had a really good time with this thread. it's all just for a good discussion. That is, until *ignorant* boy got all happy with the keys and started calling me names. Talk about the mature way to go into this. Suuuuuuuuure you talked to your neighbor. I have no idea why he wouldn't do what you asked....

i have a ignorant neighbor just like you..ive called the cops on them a few times. they now have to have a bark collar on their crappy dog.
in nj its illegal to have a dog barking more than 30 mins and charges can be pressed.
animal control can and will take the dog away if it becomes a nuisance, people like you have 0 respect for your neighbors. get a bark collar and have some respect for your neighbors.
It a dog. They bark. Get over it....

Either I'm a hard sleeper or really tolerable. Either that or it's just cause my yard is good sized so my neighbors are a long ways from me, cause I don't get bothered by any of this stuff...
No we have decent neighbors who bring there dogs in at night. We are the only ones with animals outside. And even when it my animals making the noise they (the neighbors) just ingore it cause it's on our property. And we usually go outside if it's later at night cause most have children.
I just overall think this is a stupid fight. There animals. There going to make noise. It would be just like us telling every human out there to not talk..... Or pass gas or make any noise. Its a natural thing for animals. Most time they are trying to alert their owner of danger. Like i said before, its a natural thing, get over it.

Here's an idea.... Move out to bum fuck egypt to where no one else lives so you get your god damn quiet. I hope your neighbors bitch about you starting your bike and moving around the house. Cause your causing noise and maybe someone doesn't like it. Get over yourself.

Now who's calling names? I've only used the word "rights" because it was previously bandied about by your compatriots. I don't actually believe we have a right to anything in this country.
Several liberal groups (inc. the Clintons)have slammed the administration for their "invasion" of our "right" to privacy with the Patriot Act. Since when do we have a right to privacy? We have an abundance of laws but only 10 "rights" as outlined by the Constitution/ the Bill of Rights.
I fully understand the difference between laws, rights, courtesies, allowances, traditions, etc.
I only took umbrage with the op's original post and itgirl's replies. Their apparent disregard for the neighbor, who, again, approached the op about the problem face to face, and asked him to resolve it or he was going to take his legal course of action and report the offending animal to the authorities, was and is appalling. I don't expect a "perfect world",in fact I know better than most of you how imperfect our society is. What I do expect/desire,however,is for each individual to at least make an attempt to NOT make life harder/uncomfortable for those around them if it is in their power to do so.
I grew up in the hood,it was noisy, close, dirty, offensive, vile, etc. I was born with "big boy pants" apparently, because I dealt with it until I was 16 at which time I moved out on my own. You don't know from "annoying neighbors" until you live next to a drug house! My skin is inches thick and armor plated. I don't think I've ever complained about a neighbor to the authorities.

See here's another thing that I find offensive...people that pass gas in the presence of others! I'm sick of people trying to tell me this is normal, uncontrollable, or natual. It is not necessary for you to pass gas in the elevator, the car,or any closed place. I NEVER do this.EVER. I don't find it humorous in the slightest. I find it offensive in the utmost! People that engage in such vile, disgusting behavior are the lowest forms of sapient life! Seriously!

I wouldnt say that I think of it as offensive but Im definitely with you on this. I have no desire to hear any of that. There is no real excuse for it, its not hard to hold back or anything if youre in the presence of other people.

you want quiet isolation? move to the sticks. it ain't my fault people choose to live in the suburbs, work 3rd shift or sleep til 2pm, etc. my yard is my yard and what i do in it is my business, be it pets, bikes, loud sex...whatever. when will the noise policing ever stop? how about i don't tell you what to do and you don't tell me what to do? peaceful coexistence...
So, by your logic, anyone that works third shift should live in a compound in the sticks. We aren't allowed to live anywhere else. And if we do, then we should just put up with whatever the hell anyone else wants to do. Makes perfect sense to me.

well, since that's my post you quoted i'll respond. my hubby works 3rd shift, so i deal with this every day of my life. it is completely unacceptable for him to think that the world is gonna stop turning solely because he has to sleep. my kids still make noise after school and during summer, i still bang on the computer keys in our bedroom and our dog still barks at strangers. life goes on. i told him we can't live in isolation just because he has unnatural sleep patterns. he either has to develop a thicker skin or break down and wear earplugs or use a white noise machine of sorts. i am just being realistic here.
do i go out and purposely make noise to wake him or disturb any of my neighbors? hell no. but i am just tired of everyone thinking they can control me and my business. i am not out to make anyone's life miserable, nor do i even try. i am simply saying there are bigger problems in this world to worry about than the neighbor's unruly dog. see where i am coming from?
it's like smoking. i hate smokers, it infringes upon my right to breathe clean air. am i out telling everyone around me to quit smoking in my presence? no. instead i choose to patronize the smoke-free areas of the world. instead of forcing someone to change their behavior to suit me, i choose to alter my environment in my favor. that way you can smoke and i can breath = everyone's happy. people just need to mind their own business and find their own solution to their problems. you can't count on other people to make you happy. only you have the power to please yourself.
that is officially the last comment i am making on this subject. it's just beating a dead horse now.

my biggest thing is get the dog a bark collar..they make ones that dont harm it. i just chose a shock collar because i know they are the most efficient. to me its just a dog so there is no need for it to bother other people considering its a luxury to own one and not a right.
