redneck is pretty much a general term that doesn't even apply to just southerners anymore as it has pretty much developed into poor white trash no matter where you are from, where the others are more geographically limited to certain areas of the south.

Ok I do agree with this...I didn't realilze there were so many rednecks up north until I visited some northern states....they definitely aren't just in the south.

coonasses...hillbillies....still can fall under the redneck label as well...

Coonass is beyond redneck, it's not something under the redneck label, it's in it's own league. You just need to meet some real coonasses to understand.

Yeah...I know but when you see one and don't exactly know where he's from...redneck covers it...at least on the surface...just like the redneck brush you used on Tennessee fans....some of them are hillbillies but redneck still works.

redneck originated from east tennessee, they are the original rednecks.

no, waterboy doesn't do the stereotype very well. It's closer to the coach you can't understand.

Well according to your source for the definition of "coonasses"...they say this....

"The term redneck comes from The West Virginia Coal Miners March or the Battle of Blair Mountain when coal miners wore red bandanas around their necks to identify themselves as seeking the opportunity to unionize. Another popular but unlikely[citation needed] etymology says that the term derives from such individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the sunlight over the course of their lifetime. The effect of decades of direct sunlight on the exposed skin of the back of the neck not only reddens fair skin, but renders it leathery and tough, and typically very wrinkled and spotted by late middle age. Similarly, some historians claim that the term redneck originated in 17th century Virginia, because fair-skinned unfree labourers were sunburnt while tending plantation crops."

....not east Tennessee....I'm just sayin'...:idk:

EXACTLY!! And he's right, the coach is the best example people would realize of coon ass...cant understand a word their speaking, and the culture oddicies is like a different country, not just southern LA...

There's also situational coon assed-ness...take my dad. He is cultured, civilized and a great guy but a coon ass. Get him around fellow coon asses and WHHHOOOOOEEEE...off he goes...

And to me, Redneck is southern/midwestern whereas anything north of Mason Dixon is hill billy...with the term originating from the red necks of the midwest working out in the sun and having a redneck...

It only states that as one possible source, it goes on about how scots/celts settled the appalachian area as possible other sources from it's beginnings in england and appalachia is mostly definitely east tenn where a lot of them settled.

Try this on for size.....

Hillbillies are a poor, simple folk, born in the hills (or other remote area), and most likely don't know they are hillbillies. They just live their lives like they know how to live 'em, and are pretty oblivious to other ways of life. The hillbilly's choice in music is simple folk music, and old school country. Don't be caught in the holler listening to gangsta rap, or you might not come back.

Rednecks can be born of any geography or social class, and make a choice to be a redneck. They have enough exposure to other cultures to know that they don't want to be a loafer wearing pussy, and damn sure don't want to be caught listening to any pop music. Rednecks have a disdain for cultures or beliefs other than their own. Oddly enough, many rednecks are fond of rap music and heavy metal. Go figure.

Coonasses are, well, just coonasses. I knew an old coonass well, but I can't even begin to describe him. Crazy cussin, drinking, loud coonass during the day at work. Silent, respectful and diligent Amish husband at night. No lie.

Coonasses are also geographically limited to people from Southern Louisiana. Basically you have to be cajun or from the bayou to be coonass.

I disagree,I met him when he performed in Grand Rapids at the Reptile House,a little bar on Cherry and Division. He's white trash but he's never done hard labor to my knowledge (started out as a dj in Detroit) and I've always associated being a redneck with farmers and the like. I understand that a person can act like a redneck just like a white kid from the suburbs can act like brother from the hood but that don't make him one. Which is exactly the way Kid Rock portrayed himself until that stopped making money. Then he did more hard rock material and now he's leaning towards country. It's all marketing in my opinion.
