Ok I'm almost at 3K miles on the Gixxer and now want to switch to full synthetic on my next oil change which will be this weekend.

The question is, can I just drain the dino oil(OEM Suzuki brand) and add the synthetic or do I need to "flush" the engine by running a semi systheic first for a few hundred miles, then switch to the full synthetic?

I know it's a newb question but I never ran a full synthetic on my last bike, so I'm not sure how to properly make the switch.

drain and switch, no need to flush.

Yep, what he said. Most modern dino oils and synthetics will swap without any real issue. I use Mobil 1 in the KTM and Castrol R4 Superbike in the GSXR. Had good success with both.

I'm probably going with Amsoil. Not sure yet. It's nice to that the GSXR only takes 2600ML. The Kawi took a full 4 liters. I keep hearing good things about Shell Rotella but I am a little hesitant to buy anything from Wally World.

There is a Rotella T that works well, my dad uses it in his Kawasaki Concours that has 30k miles on it. You just have to make sure that it does not have "friction modifiers" in it, usually molybendium, because it binds to clutch plates and causes them to slip.

Switch away. I have Amsoil in the Buell right now. Noticed dramatic improvements over the Harley syth (manufactured by Sunoco).

I'll probly put Mobil1 in it next time b/c it's cheaper and more readily available. And just as good.

Cheaper? What is Mobil1 per liter?

I should check there. I bought mine at the only place I know that has it. The Ducati dealer.

At I need 4 quarts of that shit. So I'm dropping 50 ducketts on this at a time.

This horse has been beat to death in an infinite number of forums, but here goes.....

If you plan on changing your oil as Zuk recommends, don't waste your money on the synthetic stuff. If you want to go further per oil change and not risk your ride, use the synthetic. When the oils are fresh, there isn't a hell of a lot of difference between dino and synthetic. However, as they gain miles, the synthetics have fewer impurities, and thus work better longer. In my opinion, if you plan on changing your oil every two or three thousand miles, you are pissing away money on synthetics.

Back on topic, no flush required. Just drain and change.

synth... that is the only thing that "mobil 1" is.

And you're right... I figure its a $13k-$14k motor stock, and with the cam, springs, and roller rockers, and rocker boxes... I got at least $15k on the motor alone, with nothing on the either head ports.

I picked up some Amsoil 10W40 at the dealer last night. $9.25 a quart of full synthetic is hard to pass up.

I had Repsol in my Zuk. I thought it made the engine noisy. Agree or disagree?

dumped SYN-3 HD synthetic in the 1125 on the last change.
:idk: guess I didn't really notice a difference, but I wasn't looking for one either...

13-14 stock is the part that gets me lol, way over-priced.

my mistake, always thought of mobil 1 as the company, never realized it was just "mobil" and mobil 1 is their synth. but i dont use mobil anyway. i use valvoline racing dino stuff. but i change the oil way more than any1 one here. so synth would be a total waste 4me.

thats for two bikes, by the way. more like three months, not two. my mistake. about 2thousand a month on one bike, other bike gets raced. dinos been workn for me so far

I got a case of it on sale for $5/qt. tough to pass up that for synth.
