Howdy all, I'm Steve, I ride a 2006 Yamaha Stratoliner 1900cc V-twin, well, not right now as I'm in Korea. But when I get home I plan on getting another bike. I'm torn between the new KTM RC8, Ducati 1098, a Busa or ZX-1400. I was recommended to the site by ebbs15 who I recently met out here in Korea. Ride safe and thanks for the place to BS.:rockwoot:

Welcome and if you are in Uniform let me thank you for your service. I have to admit to being a big fan of all the bikes you mention. I currently own a 05 Busa that is set up with a turbo and fuel rail, and a 999. They are very different classes of machines. The Busa is a sport tourer with heavy emphasis on sport. You will hear any numbe of "internet experts" who have obviously spent no time on either the Busa or the ZX14 tell yu how they are pigs or don't handle. They are simply wrong. Both bikes handle very well the ZX14 better than the stock first Gen Busa (the Busa is easily upgraded) and the Gen 2 Busa's and the ZX14 are almost dead even in any practical sense. These are big machines that fool you rather quickly, the moment they start away from a stop the weight dissapears and it would take truly skilled rider to get to the point where the extra length of the stock chassis would make a difference. I would ride either of them across the country without a second thought. That little bit of extra length and weight eat up a lot of the bumps and smooth the ride out
The triple 9 is another beast all together. Faster away from the line and a chassis that is telapathic with a torque curve that will let you get away with some fairly dumb stunts (don't ask me how I know) The ergos are a bear after just a few hours in the saddle (and the 749 and 999 are reported to be the most comfortable of the Duc superbikes) I love the Duc 999 while any of the newer i4 1 liter superbikes will out run it at anything between 30 and 120 it will let even a moderately skilled rider run with the big boys and make them look bad in the twisties
On the 1098 may want to consider that In January Ducati Dealerships will begin taking deliveries of the New 1198 and 1198s .(confirmed with my local dealer yesterday and they have a not to call me when they come in cause I may trade the 999 against a new one) This gives anyone considering joining the Duc squad a couple interesting options. The left over 1098s are likely to be had at considerable discount, or the new 1198 with its 170 hp to play with. Ahh decisions desisions.. ALso you should know at least here in New England KTM has delayed shipping of the RC8 untill around the first the year

I'm not a fan of the hyper-bikes, IMO the ZX14 is a pig. You'd LOVE the RC8 or the 1098.

Welcome!

Wow! Thanks for all the welcomes and inputs on what bike to get, Ebbs, this place is as good as you said it was!:twfix:

nhgunnut, thanks for the reply man, that's good shit and a damn good read! And thanks for the service comment. I am in the military and love it!:pat:

DLIT, I work at the 607th AIS, been here once before back in 99 and got snagged with it again. Things have deffinately changed in 9yrs!!

Nonetosoft, I've been riding for over 20yrs. The Strat is just my most recent. I've had a Busa in the past and ride a buddies all the time, I've also had a ZX-6R and another cruiser I won't mention as it was my first and I'm a gentleman!

Thanks again for the welcomes, oh, and the offer there Gunther might make me pass on the RC8?! HAHA!:idk::whistle:

You'll see me on here and there, I tend to lurk more than post, but when I do it's because there's something worth saying. Take care all, keep the rubber side down and watch out for the cages!
