As stated in my entertainment thread (http://www.twowheelfix.com/showthread.php?t=3016) I will be doing some home upgrades. Talking about spending some major cash out on it... but the changes will ROCK.
So first up... siding, trim, gutters, ect...
Well I have been tied up getting estimates on siding, trim, and gutters. I went thru a few contractors and went with this guy. The work is by far some of the best if not the best I have ever saw.
We went with siding on the gables and the back. Vynal cedar shake on the front of the garage and the front porch. Alum trim throughout, including the amazing tripple bend trim on non-gutter edges. Not to mention the oustounding frost board and header board above the garage. All that great alum trim is hand bent in my driveway on a break. Simple incredable!
The one pic of the down spout shows my new setup. The way it is in the pic into the PVC for winter time, so I don't have any ice on the walkway and driveway, then I slide off the flex hose and attach the other one with the elbow during spring/summer/fall months. All the gutters are seamless with each joint sealed up tight on the inside and hung with screws, not nails.
You all should check it out in person and welcome me to the non-painting or maintance world of new siding. Please if you need any type of work like this, stone, brick, windows... give Mike a call.

If we get some better temps I'll paint the garage door, but if not, there is always next spring. At least it don't look too bad dark brown with the brown roof.
What ya think?

Looks good. I was just thinking that you needed to paint the garage door, but yeah, you'll prob have to wait till spring.
My parents have the same type awning over their deck, but it's just a solid creme color. It was sort of a bitch to install, but I managed. I do most of their home improvement work. Siding isn't too difficult and hanging gutter is pretty easy. I love seamless gutters!! It looks like those guys did a nice job on the house. I much prefer the lighter colors over darker ones.

Yeah and that alarm speaker in the front was a foolio cause the real one is hidden.
The little item on top of the reciever is small and raised... no venting issues there. But that is why I put it up there by itself... too heavy to place on top of things and didnt want to cover it up either.

Really it was a inexpensive improvement and something that is well worth it. Total cost was about $100. That includes the fixtures, bulbs, dimmer switch, new double bang box, circuit breaker, and some wire off a 250' roll (purchased to do this and upcoming kitchen project).
Now when I want to do something I'll have some decent amount of light... could have used it a few weeks ago when doing the tv project.

That was a few hours the tuesday. Then on wed, I built the custom toe kick for the wall cabinets that are going on the floor for the buffet counter. (please don't mind my bro's gay comments, he's a bastard and didn't get held enough by mom) In order to do this, I took the measurement off the pantry and duplicated it by rippin a set of 2x6's to the proper size.

Some think I must not work... I do work... what I skip is sleeping. Got 1 hr of sleep last night on the couch before the granite template guy showed up.
Did a few more things today and will do some more tonight... The wife wants to help so I told her I would wait... man she is awesome!!
The template guy was GOOD. But he broke some bad news... even though the cabinet lady said the 36" corner sink base cabinet would fit the standard 30" double bowl undermount sink would fit. I had my doubts and the granit guy confirmed. NO WAY without MAJOR cabinet modification that is simply unaccepatable. So goint to order a Blanco Diamond granite composite D-shaped single bowl undermounted sink in black. Took my Franke double bowl granite composite back to lowes. List price on the Blanco is $475 but I found it online for $249... just waiting till monday to check locally (closed for holiday) to see if they can beat price and time line. Lowes was at $400 and 3 weeks out... unacceptable. So we'll see. counter top is on hold till they get the sink and I pick out the slab. However, I planned on 2-3 weeks for counter tops and they will get them done in 7-10 days. Add in 1 week for new sink purchase... and I'm still on schedule.
moral of the story...

But been getting some more work done... summary of the last couple days
Neighbor, Sgt, came over and did all the copper soldiering for us. I laid it out but he did all the assembly with soldiering. It turned out good. The 2 caps on either side of a joist is where the old lines were. They got capped and we ran a new T and lines to the new cabinet. Test ran water thru them and the new PVC drain, no leaks.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Install3-35007.jpg
Then with the newly stripped off butcher block top off the old dishwasher (probably fake) put on top of the cabinet in the basement that had just a plywood top. Looks much better I think.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Install3-35008.jpg
Then got the toe kicks installed including the custom one below the buffet table, with the heat vent cut out of that. Then we put the quarter round down and covered the heat duct with a new vent.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Install3-35011.jpg
You can also see that we did the toe kick by the sink base and dishwasher section. Got that all finished with quarter round as well. Turned out GREAT!!!

Then today we got the sofet extended and put the 45* angle to the corner. All with the same reveal. It will end up looking great. Just needs some sanding, more mud, some tape, sanding, mud, sanding, primer, paint.

Nice work. Wanna come down to Indiana and help me next? My only problem is that I'm running out of money. Need to get a second job, but then won't have the time to do the work. Guess I'll just have to be like you and not get any sleep.
I knew I'd have to spend "some" money on things, but didn't expect to find mice in my mattress, nor did I expect the water softener in the house to be shot. Do I NEED soft water? Frankly, yes. Terre Haute water is by far the hardest water around. So I shelled out the money to get a new water softener. That's quite a bit of money that was going to be used for tile, microwave and dishwasher, that I no longer have. So, I guess the kitchen will retain the nasty carpet for awhile and a shitty microwave and no dishwasher. I'm still going to tile the bathroom and entry to the house.

Capt... shit... money is always a thing that in my mind can be minipulated. Pay now or pay later you are going to pay one way or the other. Might as well enjoy yourself. Further, I don't plan on doing this crap when riding season gets here!
Rider... I contracted thru Lowe's. And went with Granite Creations in Novi. I'm sure your local lowes or hd can steer you in the proper direction for sure.
The thing about corian is that its now about twice as much as granite. Corian is nice, I have it in one of my baths, but I think granite is far nicer. The greatness is that its natural and that is where it gets it true bueaty.
You simply seal it once a year and you're good to go. Besides, tell me the last time you threw a raw slab of meat on your counter? YOu simply don't do that... it goes on a cutting board.

I have corian in 3 of my 4 bathrooms. It's easy to clean and looks nice. If you scratch it you can "buff" it out. Shit, if the granite can be sealed, I may go that route. Corian used to be less than granite. Did granite go down or corian go up?

Wed I got a few things done.
The plug to the right of the buffet installed in the pantry

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3002.jpg
Then I installed the under cabinet lights
Here's the plug I need to plug into above the micro. The left side is on the dimmer by the sink and the right side is constant power from a diffrent circuit for the microwave.
Drilled my holes and started to run my wires

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3006.jpg
Repeated 6 times... keeping all the wires in the cabinets to keep a clean look outside... I need to get my pic of the finished wiring off the camera with the action shots of the lights. They turned out great!
Wanted to button up the sink... installed the faucet

After the granite install they unscrewed the pantry to give them some allowance to get the top in. So I need to re-adjust the cabinet and its fillers.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3019.jpg
Then I installed the door knobs... 18 of them...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3021.jpg
Now I also did another coat of paint, installed the drawer pulls. Almost ready for backsplash then all kinds of trim. Would have got more done but Brinks had a few vet appts.

Well here's the pics from last week
I put on the drawer pulls. There are only 4 drawers in the whole kitchen.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3024.jpg
I installed the under cabinet lighting with carefull detail to keeping the wiring as hidden as possible.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3037.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3038.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3036.jpg
Some run this wiring all under the cabinet but I don't want anybody to see it. They won't see it inside the cabinet once the cabinet is populated so that is my angle.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3026.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3028.jpg

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3031.jpg
And of coarse as stated before they are on a dimmer
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3034.jpg
Then we put a new coat of primer on the ceiling. I think the house has, like many people wrongly do, primered white ceilings. Its not a good idea cause over a couple years it yellows and becomes an off white. You don't notice till you put new ultra pure white paint to it. I went with a good Behr Eggshell paint. Bought 5 gal pale of it so I have enough to do everything I want.

It went up pretty easy once you made the cuts a few times. This is one of those items that many weren't sure about but most like it and I think it turned out even better than I thought. Simply looks great if you ask me. The color really compliments the cabinets and granite.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week3058.jpg
Hung the new ceiling light, and curtains. The curtains got put up with tension rods. Easy, adjustable and a clean install with the curtains on the inside of the window opening.

So this week I have been finishing up small details.
Was still battling the plumbing on the old disposal, just to find out that it don't matter. The damn thing was also leaking from itself and the bolts holding it together. This meant water was getting into the electronics and the motor. There was even rust on these long bolts which tells me it has been doing it for a while. We just never noticed in the old kitchen and didn't notice till now cause we never ran water in the sink long enough till I got the pvc water tight and not leaking.
Out with the fuckin old!!!

The new HOTNESS

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week4003.jpg
Stainless steel 2 grind chamber, 3/4hp, auto reverse for anti jamming, and ulta quiet tech. Let me tell ya... stainless... ok.... auto reverse for anti jamming... ok never jammed one... but the quiet tech... OMG you can't even hear the thing running over the sound of the water!!! It has a nice gasket at the flange with a better set of top rubber fingers, and a rubber pvc mounting system as you can see here... and I don't care... the quiet aspect is GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Ktichen/Week4004.jpg
I installed the under cabinet trim which is great cause it hides the under cabinet lights more (as planned) and just adds that finished touch to the cabinets.
Then the crown molding yesterday that you can see here with the under cab lights...
The finished product....

It has been a ruff ride due to some set backs with the sink, disposal, installation of the buffet/pantry area, and the dirty work of drywall. But its OH SO WORTH it! We simply LOVE IT!!!
Just have one more piece of scribe molding to put up at the cabinet to wall joints that I'm waiting to come in. Also will fill my trim nail holes and color those once that comes in as well.

Pulled out the main bath vanity & Found some old water damage here too... so same thing... cleaned with bleach water, air out, paint with killz. This one was also due to the builder jackasses didn't put in a heat duct/vent and just had the heat duct blowing under the vanity... stupid!

Because I discountinued the plumbing in the master bath... had to run new... even thru in a mechanical vent because I was tapping into the shower drain line and no longer right into the main drain with the roof vent. Just a pre-caution.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch010.jpg
Then for my upcoming LED/crown molding design... I cut down some tile board into 7" tall strips... nailed that over the disgusting border

A support strip for added nailing
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch012.jpg
Put up the top molding and the big crown corners

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch015.jpg

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch018.jpg
I ruffly put in one piece and you can see what it will be. LED rope lights will go all arond the room between the 2 trims, lighting the ceiling.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch020.jpg
Then I hung the matching toilet cabinet. I'm still going to add some more trim to the top to make it match the vanity
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/Bed%20Bath%20Hall/HomeStretch021.jpg
That is all the main bath... I have also put up the new shower curtain rod, new all white linen shower curtain and put the toilet back in. It looks great.
Now I actually finished today.. the half bath.
New toilet

Just wait, after this... I'm going to finish painting the rest of the house.

Everything looks incredible man. Absolutely love the tile around the top of the tub like that. The black vanity looks great too. My mom loves this stuff and always watched HGTV. Made me love the fancy style sinks and faucets.

As usual, it all looks like those houses on TV that I wish I had. I can't say I've seen that style vanity before though. I can already tell the LED lights are gonna look great too.

It really does light the room up pretty well. And it is also the final piece to complete this project. Now the only thing left to do is paint in the house... and let me tell you... it feels good to be done.

Yeah no shit!! Uma says those lights would amplify your hotness in your uniform. Which reminded her she never got pics of you in your dress uniform... and she is now once again reminded she's mad at you for it.
Seroiusly, the lights are fuckin awesome... its enough light to walk in, find shit, use the toilet, or really even shower...
Plus they are on a complete dimmer switch...

Yeah it turned out GREAT. My bud came over half way thru... and said he couldn't wait to see it all. He said everything else has been some profession quality work, but said if I can pull off the lighting project/idea... that would be some Bob Villa level work. We leave the rope lighting on... you can walk in, do your biz and walk out... no light switch... plus its just PIMP

actually that was from home... work for me doesn't start till 8 now... AWESOME! we work till 6... but it's a compressed work schedule... so I get every other Friday off... which would be THIS friday if I wasn't leaving thursday night for San Antonio for 2weeks of training.
but this post is from work... though I don't have a job yet... as I have to attend training first.

I hear ya... and I honestly HATE having things done for me... if I don't know how and don't feel comfortable doing it... I try to find someone who will help me do it... last resort just having someone doing it for me...
but rest assured if I lived closer gas I'd save up shit to do just to come over and shoot the shit while we work
