Alright, I am in need of help and or ideas because I am mentally overwhelmed with this.

For those of you who don't know, I graduated from college about 7 months ago and went on a trip to Alaska for 6 months. In the mean time, my mom housed my bike and all of my crap at her house. Now I am living at her place for the next couple of months before I return to Alaska and consider staying through the winter.

Now that I am home and up on my feet I want to get the bike out of the living room. Problem is that we live in a shaddy part of Atlanta and stuff gets fucked with quite frequently. I have a bike cover, a disk lock and a cable lock for it but I don't have anything sturdy to lock it to on the driveway side of the house. I also have a funny feeling it would probably get kicked over anyways.

I would like to relieve my mom of the bike in her living room. However I think I would only feel comfortable if I could park it in the basement at night and when I am gone.

My first problem is getting off the steep drop from the end of the driveway. And to compliment this I was thinking of maybe laying a concrete path from the gate entrance around to the back door, mostly because it gets muddy as hell in the back yard after rain. I don't mind doing it myself and I think I could get away with it for relatively cheap. I would just have to deal with the gradient, and do a shit ton of digging in the very tough ground.

Anyways, I thought I would post up a couple pictures of the situation and maybe see if anyone could throw some ideas or thoughts that I may be missing. Maybe even tips if someone has done something like this before.

Has anyone done something like this before? Would paving a ramp be as easy as laying down wood framing and smoothing out the right gradient?

Gate on the right, Door on the left.

The damn drop off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/pootiestang/Project/Project003.jpg

Now yes, I realize this is a ridiculous amount of work to keep my very common and unspecialized bike safe. And to make it funnier, if my bike were stolen I would get a profit of 2500 out of the deal. But damnit, I put this thing back together after the last owner wrecked it, it's my first bike and I love it. Not to mention I FUCKING HATE THIEVES and hate to think I would be giving into them if I didn't keep the bike inside.

Yeah I know. WTF is wrong with me. :idk:

Doesnt really look that bad???

Maybe its just me But Im not one for Extra work.

Call up a few buddies Pick the bitch up and put it in the basement...Problem Solved.

The bike has to go through that door Pictured on the left??? Get a peice of wood to make the drop off not as harsh and roll the bike down there yourself...Open door and Voila...Into the basement it goes.

Just leash your JRT to your bike and give him an espresso. He'll keep the undesirables at bay.

Pictures don't do it justice. The buddy problem would prevent me from being able to use the bike daily. However I may just resort to driving my car to and from work on days after the rain and just wait for the back yard to dry up before rolling the bike out.

I will figure a ramp system out and try that for a bit, and if it fails miserably then I guess I can look into the concrete idea.

Its just that im jobless and at home all day so these things are always on my mind.

Thought about it but he is so damn cute he just attracts people.

I wish. Damn sportsbikes.

So I did some more measurements and it just not clicked that the bike won't fit through the door with me on it which would make it a bitch to get in and out anyways.

Screw this thread, im looking at storage units tomorrow. If I could find one that wasn't too far away, I wouldn't mind driving over there and parking the car while im gone. I could keep all the bike stuff over there as well.

Probably your best bet. I can't see of a way to make it inconvenient enough that it's not a good theft target but also convenient enough to have easy access to the street without having it in a garage or other enclosed area. You're basically trading off safety for convenience one way or the other.

Yeah that sounds about right. As long as I can find a 24 hour place that I can park at I will be happy, but I may have to do some searching.

Most places around here will have a keypad that you can use to access the site at all hours. Be warned though that they will generally have rules against storing vehicles there and especially working vehicles with gasoline in them. So if you do it, you'd have to do it on the downlow.

LoL, don't take offense. Thats just the sort of responses some of the regulars around here like to throw down. :)

You do raise a good point though. I do recall some places being real picky about that kind of stuff. I stored various engine parts for a while and remember getting a ton of grief for it. I am thinking that I may keep my garage stuff here at the house and work on the bike in the driveway and then take it back when I am done.

In this neck of the country, you can rent a 15 ft cargo container and put it in the back of your driveway for 50 bucks a month....sort like a porta-garage. They are 1/8 in steel with double steel doors and lockable latches....might be a better bet than either a garage or storage. I've been thinking about doing one and then covering it with sheet siding to make it look pretty.......

That's true. I had a container from PODS. I don't recall how much it was but if I remember correctly they didn't really seem to care if they picked it up or not. You might be able to just rent one and have it sit in the driveway or your backyard and then park in it and lock it up.

another company to look into is called Mobile MIni;'s similar to pods. I had one at my house for awhile before a move, talking like 6 months. They are long term also.

Awesome ideas guys. Thanks a ton. I have too much football to watch this weekend, so I will probably look into everything on Monday. Including various walk around at some local storage units.

Waiting on a quote from them since Pods won't deliver the 7ft container to my area and they want over 80 bucks a month for a 12 ft unit that I don't need.

Update for that have ever thought about this kinda thing.

I checked out all the local storage places and have found 5x10 units for as cheap as 49.00 a month. However, they have limited access hours which is a big pain in the ass.

Another place is 24 hour access, but he wants 79.00 a month. I am going to call him back and see if he will come down on the price, but he did say that he would give me December free. Something to consider.

Called Pods, and the small unit isn't available because the local branch doesn't own any. They will do 69.00 a month, but its 119 up front, 30 for delivery and 70 for pickup.

Called Mobile Mini and I was very impressed with the eagerness for my business.

She was actually from the region where I lived and asked if security was going to be an issue for me. I told her it was the main reason I was looking into this and she then went on about the advanced security of her pods. Also noted that the pods have ventilation which would prevent fumes from building up.

She quoted me a reasonable price, but then said it would be 140 for delivery and then 140 for pickup. When I told her I would need to call back she wanted to know what she could work on to help confirm me for her serviced. I told her that her monthly rate was high but reasonable however the delivery and pickup prices were really high. I even told her what PODS had quoted me.

She was going to see what she could do about it, e-mail me a quote tonight, and asked if she could call me back tomorrow to see where we stand. And she thanked me for the opportunity for my business. I was very impressed and may consider paying more just because of the way she is handling everything.

Kryptonite (i think) sells an anchor that is meant to be attached to a driveway/concrete floor/etc. You'll drill some deep holes and then throw some concrete mix in there and in the end you'll have a big tie-down points on the ground in your driveway.

Get one of those huge fucking kryptonite chains like I have and lock that bike down and cover it (don't forget to run a cable lock through the grommets on the cover ;) )

Thanks for the idea Ceo. I am going to be getting back in touch with the Mobil Mini people and see how much they need up front. My mom offered to help me out with the delivery fees. She also pointed out that I could move a ton of my shit into the cargo box and she could get half of her house back.

On the plus side it would function as a garage storage area which would be a real convenience. I am at home with her for the next week while she goes through some operations but once she is back up on her feet she said she would help me out.

Make a path out of bricks from the gate to the stoop? Kinda like making a cheap walkpath...just throw 'em down, drive short pieces of rebar thru the outer rows and fill a little with concrete. The height of the bricks would level you up closer to the door and stoop. Just a redneck thought...I had to do a little redneck engineering for my mom periodically...she's in KY.

Ok, so I didn't read the whole threar before posting... Mobile thing sounds like an idea...

You could lay a concrete pad in and use a ground anchor like the one that ceo posted, or one of a hyndred different units that are available in the UK because of their huge problem with bike theft. Ordering stuff in from the UK isn't all that tough.

If you still want to think about bringing the bike inside then trenching a few inches deep, putting in some gravel or limestone screening, and laying in some paving stones for a path would likely be the easiest and best way to go.

Good point... I'm trying to remember the name of a company there who makes the most ridiculous chains and such I've ever seen... I think it's Almax or something?
