I've known Moira for over 5 years now in person.. I know she's a person of outstanding character and good morals. She is the furthest thing from shady, IMO... she will tell you to your face anything at all, whether it hurts your feelings or not.

Personally.. I trust her implicitly. She has always been an awesome friend. And even when she didn't agree with my decisions in life (i.e.. retarded ex-husband).. she has always been there for me.

Ditto! Moira is neither insecure nor catty. She tells it like it is, which often people don't like, but, its not to bash, its to be honest.

I've known Trip for what... 3 years now... almost 4... and we both share a mindset on this forum and our old home Twowheelforum.com it was our home... where we went to shoot the shit about motorcycles with good people... we created a good set of friends there and it became just as real as meeting at the bar is for some. VS came in and ruined that... changed the layout and rules in our "bar". we didn't take kindly to that.. and when they told us nothing would change and they'd fix bugs... and us believe them... then they didn't... it was enough...

This forum was created as a HOME... not a buisness... this is our Bar... just owned by one of the regulars. we'd love to have this forum grow, because we'd like to meet more like minded people... but it's not for everyone... and we don't NEED to grow.

I honestly consider a large group of the TWFix original members my good friends and would do just about anything for them. That's the type of atmosphere we want here... you can't get that if the forum is a buisness.

I hope you stick around... you just seem a bit confused right now... with people talking in both ears... though you have no reason to believe me... I hope you'll stick around long enough to see what we're really about.

Honestly Becca, I didn't even know what business Moira was running. Her business is so localized and also niche-y that I can't see that it would ever be a decent return on investment to use this forum as a sales outlet. It's a inter/national forum. I grew up in Texas and went to college in Austin and the chance of me doing a track day in Texas is about nil to nil-point-one percent since I don't have any bikes there and I rarely even visit there. If someone is telling you that her motivation for telling people about this place then I don't know what to say. It's simply illogical really. She be better off starting her own local board or trying to sell through that. There are only 5-7 regular posters on the CF Grandstands that are even within a reasonable distance to Moira to participate in her track days.

Hi, I know you and I never really chatted with each other a lot on CF Directly. But you also know I'm one of the oldest/original members on CF, and I've been around since SBN started (And restarted, and restarted) and SB.WS as well as a bunch of the other boards.

I've got no financial ties to any of those boards, except giving Donations over the years to SB.WS, CF and other. But what I have seen of VS take overs is pretty much what most of the people are saying. Ads, Ads, and alot of crap. Granted their are small exceptions. The Florida forum on SBN is pretty much still the Lakeland/Tampa people for instance, and it's a VS board now too.

Think about the Irony in that, CF and SBN are now owned by the same people, again. They're just different people.

People will come and people will go. I'll end up lurking / posting where most of the people I enjoy reading their posts are. Be it here, or somewhere else.

I feel bad for some of the mods over there because they put in time, energy, and money, to keep that board a home for us. However the ones who choose to pretend that nothing has changed, as they are watching the changes happen, and the ones that are spreading lies about other people, I don't feel so sorry for.

Give it time. Right now the mods are seeing everything as teething pains, because of the migration of the forum over to vBulletin. It's easy for them to write stuff off as glitches, or temporary rules in place to keep the forum from taking a dump.

There are a lot of things being said now that people are going to wish hadn't been, in a month or two. It's best to leave those things unsaid.

Exactly, I'm not what you'd call a Linux Graybeard by anyone's standard but I've started and run a few boards with SMF software, which is not nearly as mature as VBulletin, and it's ridiculously easy to find where those options are. Hell, most of them are just checkboxes or pulldown menus.

They still don't get that VS is charging the advertisers $400-$20000 a month depending on how big the advertisement is to advertise on the board. DB export, when it's as massive as the one over at CF and may contain data from various hacks, can cause a bit of an issue. some of the things happening are undoubtedly genuine issues. Others are not. Until the dust settles, the people who haven't seen this before won't be able to tell one from the other.


You know, I just asked about this on CF.

CF isn't really all the MASSIVE of a Database. Even with 4 Million Messages, it's still going to be only a couple gigs of data, I'm even willing to give you 150 gigs tops. That is a tiny database my friend.

The EXPORT and the IMPORT are allready all done. If they weren't, it wouldn't be running at all.

Now, I will grant you that doing Full Table Indexes might take a "While", but not 4-5 Days a while. I've got MultiTerabyte GeoSpatial Databases here at the office, a 2 Terabyte one as a sample dataset from a Pharma testing company for a test environment, and doing those as full table scan re-indexs only take about 12-18 hours. On Terabytes of data.

And also remember, CF was already running on vB. Granted, a much older version, but it was still vB 'Upgrade'.

There might be compatibility issues in the software itself and specific mods. But blaming it on a database import not being done isn't going to fly with me unless you give me exact specifics.

Ummm.... seven. Three photography (well one is actually a photography group rather than a forum) and 4 motorcycle. Out of those fora I spent about half my online time at CF, despite being a mod on two of the bike forums.

I was a member on SBN for about a year before the mass exit of that god forsaken place, and moved to cf. Things slowly eased up, and cf was home, while sbn was an afterthought.

Its been about a week and CF is pretty much almost an afterthought already. I've seen what happens to VS boards, and I dont feel like sticking around when I know whats coming. Sure it sucks that 6 years and 14k+ posts are pretty much gone, but really, none of it was that important anyway.

There will be more and more leaving when they see the way things are run around Verticalscope, and hopefully most of them will show up here.

I dont know why excessa wants to believe nothing has changed so badly. Posts dissapear, get edited, forums get extremely slow (cf is already starting to).

I feel horrible for rez. I feel less horrible for the rest are sticking around to defend VS's lies.

I do think there are few of them over there who refuse to leave the board for that reason alone, but I hope it's not all with the exception of Leon. That's just depressing if it's the case.

I think even for some of us there is still some sense of loyalty to Cf since some of us have been there for so long. I will prolly be on both boards for now, most of our local guys only stay in the NY forum so they arent realy up on all the drama.

IMO, the reason they (if I do in fact know whom she meant) started encouraging people to come over here had nothing to do with anything other than VS sucks, they know it sucks, they didn't like the way the change was handled, and they figured they'd let people know about a place that doesn't suck.

Here's what went down: The day after the CF "server upgrade" I got on there, and posted on something in GS. Apparently it auto-subscribed me to replies, because 5 minutes later, I got an email saying there was a reply on the thread. I looked at the email and realized the email address was admin@verticalscope.com. I was livid. As many others have stated, many of us have been on other great riding forums that have been taken over by VS, so we KNOW the line of B.S. they feed the members (and staff) and we know what's over the horizon.

So I posted a rant about it here. All I said was "Another one bites the dust.... CF has been bought by Vertical Scope." That's it. No ulterior motive, no grand agenda, no nothin'. That was literally it. Others who read that post had ALSO seen their beloved forums fall to the great and mighty VS, so they 1.) confirmed it was true, and then 2.) got the word out, not as a call to abandon ship, but as a warning "hey, this board will be teh suck pretty soon...." :lol:

And that, in a nutshell, is it. The whole fuckin' truth.

I don't think it is that. I think her little moderator duties became to big a part of who she feels she is and even though she can see the house falling down around her, she can't let them go. Yep, I agree...I lived in Nashville until this past January and since we could pretty much ride all year long, the southeast forum was slow unless there was a ride or party to announce. Living up here, I spend much more time on the forums, especially since we haven't got a bike to ride yet, and mostly in the winter (which is considerably longer here than back home). It's been in the 60s all week until today, which is rare from what I hear, and today it has dropped and there's an icy wind blowing. I think I'll be staying in and doing laundry since I didn't have water yesterday because of hydrant flushing...

Although the roads are great, there are some drawbacks to living in a "village" on the side of a ridge...:D

Well I am staring at the contracts right now. I've gotten 2 forum owners to email me copies of their contracts they signed with some douche named Rob Laidlaw representing Verticalscope. I didnt know there were multiple contracts signed.

There is a contract for Rob Laidlaw aka Verticalscope buying the forum. There is another contract to pay the admin a monthly stipend and that screws over the admin I dont see how any admin expects to realistically get paid every month with a contract like that. But that makes sense because there is another piece of paper which happens later and its Verticalscope telling the admin to basically fux0r off.

So 2 forum owners emailed me their paperwork with Rob and Verticalscope. Another forum owner said he would email me his but hasnt already.

1 forum owner who is pissed how he is treated forwarded me a few emails by these Verticalscope cronies who say one thing in one email and screw them over in later emails.

Rob Laidlaw for before the sale who clearly lies about things.
Jim Ducharme who cant give a straight answer in telling these guys how things will be.
Ben Minbashian for after the sale who clearly is in it to screw over the old owner and see them on the way out.
