*sigh*

So we got the R1 tagged, etc.... last night (woot), replaced the headlights with silver satr bulbs, and I finally got to ride her today. Holy cow.... Even just on my quick little 12.5 mile commute to work (primarily on the highway) it was just sheer joy. Just an amazingly nimble, light and RESPONSIVE machine. Comfortable, fits me well, responds to my every whim or wish... just a blast. I can't wait to get out on a longer ride Thursday night (and I've also got a couple longer adventures planned with her both Saturday and Sunday).

Those short 12.5 miles this morning confirmed -- I chose correctly. This is without a doubt the bike for me.

*swoon* :rockout:

I love my Arai, but the ONLY complaint I have about it is the lack of an anti fog visor. I was actually just saying last night that the Scorpion Black Dahlia helmet would look great with my bike (and has anti fog).... *hmm*

I also love my anti-fog scorpion visor. However, I am probably going to try to move up to a exo-700 or maybe 1000 next year.

My buddy I ride with has the same problem...Because I'm like My shit never fogs and he was like well mind doesnt either but my glasses do...I guess not wearing them I didn't think of that.

There are some tricks out there to help prevent fogging up though.

Dish soap I heard works if you put on a thin layer then let it dry.

I love the bright burst-like flowers on the side and back...I with the whole thing was like that.

The 700 was still not too much...although I got mine for about 15% off because my husband (and now me too) spends way too much money at the bike shop.

I do the dish soap thing on my shower mirror...but never thought to do it on my glasses. :dthumb:

Luckily my eyes are not too bad...yet...so it is not a big deal to just not wear my glasses in the AM. The only time I run into a problem is when I ride to work...which I do not do too often.

 I like it because it does look feminine without being pink or baby blue.

But I got mine because it is mostly red. :D

*Pretend I posted a picture here...photobucket is not working for me* :tt:

If I had the $$ I would get a plain 1000 and have the guy that pained the hubby's bike (I think he did Bostrom's helmet this year too) airbrush stars on it. Hmmmmmm...wonder if the hubby would do that for me for our anniversary.......

check out the fog city inserts... I had one on my Arai and LOVED it... the other nice thing is it tints itself... so you don't have to wear sunglasses or switch between a tinted visor and a clear one

:lol; Seriously, technology is amazing... Fuel injection ALONE makes a huge difference, but the weight difference is noticieable too, even in just pushing it around out of the garage and into the driveway....

I'm not sure... I just know we're talking about riding. I'll letcha know once we decide (and of course, that's the one day this week we're supposed to possibly get rain, so it might be last minute... )

Awesome choice of bikes Neebs :dthumb: I've been drooling over the red '08 I've had sitting in the showroom for a while but I've got to be practicle so I'm on an FZ1 as soon as I sell the VTX.

You should have held out for an '09 though...it's going to be awesome!!! Of course they're also going to be $12,500. I can't wait for January to get here so I can see one in person.

Enjoy the new ride girl!

It's the right bike as long as you are only doing 12.5 mile trips, anything over that and it is going to kill you. Just kidding.

 Actually I put about 154 miles on her today. If not for the HUGE temperature drop and the fact that I was soaked to the skin, it probably would've been pretty comfortable.

What are some impressions after the first couple hundred miles?

neebelung

What are some impressions after the first couple hundred miles?

Just as enthusiastic as the first 25 miles. I put over 370 miles on her this weekend.

The thing that impresses me is that no matter what gear I'm in, when I want the power, it's there, with no delay. In particular, 2nd gear will take your ass out from under you if you're not ready for it.

Case in point: I'm in 2nd gear, merging into traffic on the way home from work last week, and had a choice of either being stuck behind a semi that was kicking up rocks at me, or giving her a good twist and getting over in front of a Suburban in the fast lane and getting the hell outta dodge. I chose that route. Chris had warned me the front end can get light, esp if your weight isn't down over the front wheel, so I hunkered down and twisted - and she went off like a rocket.

This is what drove home the point that liter bikes aren't beginner bikes (for anyone who hadn't quite grasped that concept  ). I told Chris had I been on this bike and done that two years ago? It would have scared the shit out of me. Seriously. Just the immediacy of the response would have startled me to no end. (What's that saying -- a 600cc bike can kill you, but a 1000cc bike WANTS to kill you? ).

I did spend a good portion of the ride yesterday dropped back a bit from the group, so I could try out the response in different gears -- just rolling on from a good clip to see where the power lies.

She is a very warm natured bike (esp compared to the Kawi, which was very cold natured). Saturday earlier in the ride, when it was 80+ degrees out, my rear and legs were plenty toasty, but in colder weather, she hovers down around 165 degrees.

Surprisingly, in spite of the # of miles I put on this weekend, it was overall very very comfortable. I wouldn't mind adding some weighted bar ends eventually, just to cut down on the little bit of vibration (it's not THAT bad, but I wouldn't mind cutting it down a bit). And adjustable rearsets might not be a bad idea either (by the time I got home from Saturday's ride, my right knee was pretty cramped).
