I was hearing more like 1/10th those numbers, but it was all second and third hand.

these numbers look pretty accurate, it would really take some cash for Shan to sell TwoWheelForum.com because it is #2 on google search for motorcycle forum.
Classic post by that guy about Stewie:
I personally know the current forum manager of the above mentioned site. I worked with him before, his back ground in not in community management, he was a photographer for Modified Magazine (acquired from VS, click here to see a story by him). I believe he has aprox. 16 minutes per day per site on avg, what can you possibly get done in that time?
Overall, can he get the job done, I believe so providing more resources are provided to him. Stew is an OK guy and really, only time will tell if he is the right man for the job.
Would I let him run a forum of mine, not a chance in hell.

You've got to remember, I've been hearing about and seeing this stuff for quite a while. It could be that the value of fora has gone up considerably. Laidlaw made pretty big news up here when he started out.

Nice post Nick. I know you wont sell to VS but how long to you think it will take before VS comes knocking at your door with an offer? 500 members? 1000 members? 10000 members?

I doubt they will, I have harassed them too much for them to want to give me money. The only reason I could see is to shut my ass up.

You could be right, I just couldn't see throwing away years of labor and love for $3800. Shan also had to split it 3 ways with his partners. I just don't see it worth that low of a price to him.

leave stew's personal life alone, it's fun to pick on him while he is at work, but the dude is just collecting a paycheck, he isn't VS.

yeah, that's not really a lot of money for having a #2 rating on google for the best keywords.

What's sad is for those who can't afford to say no or bother researching the buyer, these things are common. VS takes advantage of the situation the owners of the sites are in and makes all these false promises knowing that once the takeover is complete, there's nothing the former owners can do but try to save face. What's even worse is that they make the former owners sign a non-compete agreement... Honestly, if I had the resources, I would give those jackasses at VS a run for their money just for spite. Build a server, host a dozen or so sites, and run to all the boards and quietly, privately generate interest until I had all their clientele. Yeah, I know...wishful thinking. I was thinking this week of building a forum for the ladies, but I honestly don't have the time to dedicate to it. I'm glad you guys let us squat here, thanks!

I don't think you're off at all. I mean do all of us deserve something like that? I dont know. Maybe we do, maybe we don't. But a guy like yourself who put in all the years, all the hours, the dedication....I'd cut you in somehow. I understand your position.
shan split it 3 ways with his partners whatever he got, plus he made some scratch each month he was on contract.

I'm not saying... big money... but damn... maybe a dinner for me and the wife. I have sent gift cards to people out of state for less. his POV was nobody made us, it was volentary. sure it was, but it wasn't about profit at the time either.

once this site gets mega huge, would it be wrong to sell it to vs for $200,000 with the intention of starting a new, better funded and self sufficient one with the core members?
or would that be betrayal?
just a question, as obviously i'd get no money, but i do respect most of u mofos opinions and knowledge, and wouldnt care where i was conversing with those ppl, as long as it was possible.

That would actually be really funny to do that, I am sure I would have to sign a contract that told me I couldn't though.
