View Full Version : Worst Part of Winter Riding

No Worries

The cold has never been a problem for me. I've worn a snowmobile suit, two pairs of longjohns and socks, and a baklava. And Hippo Hands are the best thing for warm hands. I ride with summer gloves underneath. I don't know why no one else uses them.

I've also ridden on snow, slush and ice. Crashed on ice once. It's a real skill to ride a bunch of miles on a curvy road, staying in a single tire track because of snow in the center.

But when I was riding yesterday, it was very sunny. The sun is at a very low angle and will get worse till the end of December. It seemed that every time I came around a corner the sun was right in my face. I couldn't see a thing. That really sucks.

that and I imagine the sun glare'n off the snow makes it 10x worse...

actually, this one is an anti-fog insert that goes into a clear visor - it has yet to fog :dthumb:

intresting... I loved my fog city insert. it was impossible to fog up... but it never got dark enough for direct light... still needed to squint a bit. but if it got darker it'd make transitions like a shaded corner impossible to see... so... :idk:

The worst part is getting ready - it takes me about 1/2 to get dressed before a ride. I like to commute on the bike, but I'd have to get up much earlier to get ready...

The other thing is the damn salt on the road, it's no fun to wash the bike in the cold weather.

In winter, happiness for those of us in the temparate zone is a heated garage, new bling, and a bunch of friends on a cold windy nite for a serious bench racing session.

I hate black ice, stiff fingers and corroded aluminum billet........
