View Full Version : Anyone using Titanium Sprockets?

Just curious if anyone has used them on your bike? Obviously I wouldn't run them at the track with all the extra unsprung weight. But I was thinking about having a set to use on the street seeing as how I put almost 20k miles a year on the bike it would be nice to have a "sprocket for life" and not having to worry about ever buying a new one. Comments? Thoughts?

Ti sprockets would be lighter than their steel counterparts.... Are you saying you wouldn't run stock sprockets at the track?

I run aluminum at the track.

Ok... and the weight difference between an aluminum sproket and a titanium sprocket is what? Maybe a couple ounces?

couple of OZ's is a lot when its in motion like that.

honestly, though, unless you've got your own race squad and a crew to calibrate your bike who the fuck cares what sprocket you're using at the track man? theres so much more to worry about than a couple extra ounces at the wheel.

lose 10lbs and that's more weight then you can save with a sprocket

No, but I am sure they would be useful as long as they aren't crazy expensive. Would they make the chain wear differently from being made out of a harder metal?

My sprockets made out of paper mache. It's so light my bike power wheelies in seventh.

I hate you guys. With the exception of T-rock not one person actually attempted to answer my question. I never said I was getting them for the weight I said I wanted any first hand experience on if they really last like their suppose to so that would be one less thing to maintain throughout the year.:dthumb:

OSP had a pretty straightforward answer. I thought you were addressing weight somewhat also.

Dude shit yeah. This japanese guy that made it for me made it look like a swan in the middle and it only has to be rebuilt every couple miles.
It's JDM AND lightweight.

Ebbs is right,I run the Ti sprockets and am very happy with them. They save A LOT of unsprung weight and they last forever. I had 40,000 miles on my '03 and the teeth still looked like new. I haven't noticed any unusual chain wear but I'm very meticulous when it comes to lining up my chain/sprockets. Besides,I've never seen a chain "wear out" but only "stretch out" if you know what I mean. I got the tri-metal sprockets and a top of the line chain for under $200 direct from supersprox. If you call them, they will be happy to help you with any re-gearing you may want to do. Oh and like Ebbs said, they have a lifetime warranty.

Ha maybe I'll get some credit on your next fucking blog....try and help these kids and what do you get.....

 under $200? thought the sprocket itself was over $200

Nope. The most expensive sprocket offered is the full Ti II sprocket which retails for $169,followed by the Ti I sprocket for $139 and lastly, the Tri metal goes for $129 retail. They also offer Ti chain if you are crazy about saving weight! They had a special for $79 rear only or a kit for $200,I think... BTW Sidewinder doesn't sell too many Tri-metal sprockets anymore and they are marketed by Supersprox now. I was lucky enough to get another Ti tri-metal sprocket after letting my old one go with my '03 GSXR (like an idiot!).

try http://sidewindersprockets.com/titanium_sprockets.html

unless that is who you tried first, then try..

http://www.supersproxusa.com/

Superprox uses a hardened steel instead of Ti now to cut costs...

Not to suck Supersprox's dick or anything but that's probably the "hot" race set-up,as 520 is typically used in racing. Man,imagine the weight savings.... 520 kit with Ti front and rear AND Ti chain....

not every track would require a 42t sprocket tho-wonder why they dont make more?

unless they only stock the 42, and anything else is special order...

Apparently they ran out of that $200 deal for TLR's and only have the $350 deal... well, no 17 tooth front sprockets in stock... I'd either have to go -2 or up 1 in the front. Fuck that.

Esjot makes steel front sprockets for the TL from 13-19 teeth, and rear steel sprockets from 38-48 teeth: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/EsjotFront.cfm. And the prices are reasonable.
